Post #2: Suppression by Authorities - Red Flag

Definition: When one believes that major organizations are hiding information from the general public to benefit the company/organization.

Connection: This article indicates Suppression by Authorities by stating that our cell phones listen to our everyday conversations. This benefits social media apps such as Instagram and Facebook for the purpose of advertisements as one scrolls through their feed. For example, someone is talking to their friend about a shirt they want, and they see that exact shirt on an ad as their scrolling, without searching up the shirt in any way. These companies deny these rumors, but millions of people worldwide say otherwise. It also makes one think, if these social media accounts can hear my conversations, the government can as well.

Definition: A deliberate, irrelevant statement or action made to distract from other comments or actions.

Connection: Yes, the example used is a family guy skit, but it is extremely relevant to the Red Herring red flag. Mayor of Quahog, Adam West spent tax payers money on a useless golden statue for the town, and the citizens were not to happy with it. To distract the townspeople from the statue, Mayor West put a ban on gay marriage, which drew the towns attention and they forgot about the statue.

Definition: The belief that things people practiced thousands of years ago, such as religion, medicine, and general information are more truthful then things discovered by scientist today.

Connection: This article is stating that ancient Chinese medical and biological practices were not as accurate as they thought. Scientists have stated that ancient Chinese wisdom was in fact detrimental to ones health. The article also states that biologically, ancient Chinese wisdom was also false. People tend to think that if something has been practiced for thousands of years, it must work. Which is not the case in all circumstances such as the Chinese' take on Ancient Wisdom.

In my opinion, the media loves targeting police officers and critiquing them with a fine tooth comb. The same people tend to ignore all the good gestures cops have done and continue to do everyday all around North America. They tend to only voice the negative, and never the positive.

Define Problem: The article is stating that some ancient Chinese practices were in fact harmful for peoples health.

Gather Information: The article states that according to Chinese medical practices, puss was a good thing and it was a sign of healing. Science has proven pus to be a sign of infection, and is in fact not a good thing by any means. The Chinese also did not know that loss of blood was detrimental to ones health.

Evaluate Evidence: The article below states that pus is the leading sign of an infection, and in no circumstance is a sign of healing
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/249182.php
Now-a-days, it is common knowledge to know that a loss of blood is a bad things. It can lead to severe health issues and can result in death in severe cases.

Recognize Assumptions, Emotions, and Biases:
Though some Ancient Chinese medical practices do work, the Chinese did assume majority of their practices, like all ancient practices. Today, we have the technology to know what is bad for your health and what is good for your health. It is safe to say that all Ancient medical pratices, were in fact assumptions.

Synthesize Evidence, Analyze Solutions: Some other solutions I could think of are that information got misinterpreted, or misused throughout the years, and maybe ancient medicine was not as wrong as it is proven to be.

Best Alternative: I do think it is very possible that teachings and practices have been misconstrued over thousands of years. I do think that some ancient medical practices are very helpful and good for your health. I also think that some medical practices are horribly wrong, like the Chinese practice of puss being a sign of healing. Thousands of years ago, they did not have any technology to prove that their practices were correct, they were just assumptions.
