Music fosters language development by teaching the children how to sing along to a song, it teaches them rhythm and how to follow to the beat of a song. Singing in Inuktitut teaches children how to memorize words through rhythmic repetitive nature and it strengthens language structure understanding.

After the children have free play and when it’s time to clean up, I like to sing the clean up song and get the children to help put the toys and whatever else they played with away into the right place.

-Lisa

music helps children to understand the mood. If we play a happy song they’ll jump around with smiles or dance. Music also helps children talk if they’re learning to talk. Someways it can be intergrate this is playing music when they’re fussy or during quiet time, circle time. The kids like to dance to new songs from what is repeated songs that play at the daycare. Also singing songs to the kids gets their attention, singing songs with actions they like. Songs like head shoulders knees and toes, wheels on the bus, Hokey Pokey, little bumblebee, little teapot, 5 little monkeys. Language, physical, emotional, social and cognitive domains are included in dancing/singing.

Music is a singing strategy, therefore they need to learn the lyrics to sing-along-with. It helps them with listening carefully, memorizing of the songs and rhythm. This encourages children to practice their pronunciation skills. It takes time to develop the language within music.

Hattie

It teaches them to understand that we can use music for anything, like dancing to move their body, clean up songs, sleeping soundtracks or just to be in quiet place. Music can teach them to memorize the song. Lots of different things to learn from music.

-Holly Kauyryuk
