Besides the benefits, international tourism also has negative impacts. First of all, tourism activities increase the pressure on domestic waste, especially in tourist centers, contributing to the increased risk of soil and water pollution. This is because tourists, especially those from developed countries, often use more water and other resources, and the amount of waste per capita is often higher than that of the local population. Moreover, the natural environment is likely easier to be destroyed. Rainforests and caves, for instance, are very attractive to tourists, but they are also vulnerable because of tourism development. Especially when tourism development is overcrowded, biodiversity is threatened by many species of organisms, including rare wild creatures such as corals and tortoiseshells.

Tourism has significant detrimental consequences on the environment. They involve local natural resources depletion and pollution and waste. Tourism typically exerts strain on natural resources by means of excessive use, particularly in areas where there are already few resources.
Tourism has put a huge demand on local land usage, which might result in soil erosion, increased pollution, loss of natural habitat and increasing strain on endangered species. These impacts might progressively undermine the environmental resources that tourism depends on itself.

For beginning, an increase in total travelers is typically related to increased in environmental pollution. Many tourists dump trash into public areas such as side walks or beaches, making the area look filthy and unclean. Moreover, when a large number of people travel, there may be an increase in demand for transportation. Since a result, it may lead to air pollution, as planes or cars can emit tons of smoke into the atmosphere.
