He wanted to find the Northwest Passage, a shorter route to China and the West Indies. He also wanted to get past Greenland and find Japan. His biggest discovery was in 1497 when he landed on the east coast of North America, near Cape Breton Island.
Some of his challenges include colder weather, ice glaciers, rough waters, temperature changes. BRR!
