Colossal Squids

Colossal squids are fascinating creatures. The scientific name is Mesonychoteuthis Hamiltoni. They are considered cephalopods because they lays eggs. They can live for 5 years and their average size is 45 feet. They also have ink to spray, they have eyes the size of dinner plates, and they have tentacles and arms. These creatures shockingly have the largest eyes in the world.

Colossal squids live in the arctic. They can be 1000 feet down in the deep ocean of the arctic. Colossal squids are known as carnivores because they eat sea bass and large fish. Surprisingly they eat 1,100 pounds a day.

These animals have many adaptations to help them survive. One of these adaptations is the giant arms. They have giant hooks on them so they can catch their prey. Lastly they can shoot out ink to blind other animals if in danger.

So that is why I think the colossal squid is an amazing creature.
