The Protagonist, or main character is Howard Wasdin, a Navy Seal. He is also the co-author of the story, making the book a sort of autobiography.
In Seal Team Six, Howard was very brave and willing to give his life for others. He usually was very sad or felt bad about his past. Howard was a dynamic character, constantly changing his character and feelings towards certain events or people.

(Above) Howard Wasdin, author and protagonist of the story.

The first conflict our protagonist faced was his relationship with his step father, Leon. After Howard's Struggle with his step father, he had to face the hardships of training in the military and be good enough to graduate. When he made it past graduation, Howard had to fight against the Iraqis in Desert Storm, he had to hunt and capture Somali warlord Mohammed Aidid. I belive the central emotional conflict was Howard trying to have a stable relationship with his step father, and the central physical conflict was fighting Mohammed Aidid's militia and trying to find Aidid.

There are many settings in the story, but the main settings were the Georgia/Florida area, Sweeden, and Mogadishu, Somalia. The Georgia/Florida area is where Howard grew up and where the central emotional conflict took place. Military training happened in California, but most prominently in Sweeden.

The climax of the story was when 2 helicopters in Mogadishu were shot down and the militia was going to kill the survivors. The Seals and the Army Rangers went in to try and rescue the pilots, but they got ambushed, and Howard was shot twice, but he was still fine. Then the lead vehicle took a wrong turn and they ended up just making a circle and had to go through the ambush. Again. This time, Howard was shot in the leg, and was unable to fight anymore. He was tranported to the United Nations base, and was later sent to a field hospital in Germany, where his leg was repaired.

The theme of this story was be greatful for what you have because of all of the times that the author described how his early childhood was filled with misfourtune and sadness. Then he continues on when Howard describes the area of Mogadishu with very descriptive words such as "the air smelled like death and hopelessness." Then after the battle, the author talks about how he lived and others died, and his leg was saved when many had to be amputated. This story wreaks of this theme, as it is hinted at several times in nearly every chapter.
