And he is stationed in Iraq and in a part of the book he has to shoot a grenade that a women pulled out to keep her from taking the lives of other marines. " It was my duty to shoot , and I don't regret it. The women was already dead. I was just making sure she didn't take any marines with her."  The survival in this book is trying to protect yourself and others.
