After watching the video, I do not think that Thomas can consent to his own treatment and he may require the help of his caregiver. I think he does not have the mental capacity to make an informed decision or provide informed consent because in order for consent to be informed you must understand what you are consenting to. I think Thomas was saying yes because he was eager and excited to be where he was, not because he understood what was happening. He also seems like a very enthusiastic and happy person who agrees with others to keep them happy. Thomas relied on his mom throughout the video which portrays that he relies on her to help with many things. The caregiver should be utilized in this situation to help Thomas with understanding. The risks and benefits of the procedures should explained to the mom so that both parties can better understand the situation.
