Author: Samantha Berger and Martha Brockenbrough
Date Read: 9/9/17
Genre: Nonfiction Picture book
Review: This story follows Bigfoot through his back to school activities such as cutting his hair and picking out clothes. As he starts thinking about everything that could go wrong, Bigfoot decides he isn't going to go back to school. However once he realizes the things he would miss out on (cool projects, friends, etc.) he decides to go to school after all.
This book would be great to read at the beginning of the year to kindergarten-2nd grade classes to help them ease into the school year and relieve any anxieties they may have about school.

The stranger stays with the family and they all become very close until one day the stranger realizes that all the trees outside of their area have turned brown and red while their’s remained green.
I really enjoyed this story because it's really character driven and focuses on the relationships between characters.
This book would probably be best for 4th and 5th grade students and can be used to teach about symbolism in stories, as the stranger is a symbol in the story.

It goes through several different animals, starting with a brown bear, asking what they see. The animal answers "I see a __________ looking at me!" However, he keeps stepping in things (like mud) that turn his shoes different colors. I like that instead of getting upset, he alters the lyrics in the song so that it says he loves his brown shoes, or whatever color they are at the moment. Similar to Brown Bear, Brown Bear, Pete the Cat is a good book for early elementary grades for it's repetitive phrases. This book would be good to familiarize them with colors in text.

Later on, he sees a missing sign for the ring and returns it to it's owner. As a reward, the owner gives the dog enough money for him to buy some warm clothes, food, and shelter.
The moral of this story is to be patient and that if you are kind and you do the right thing (like the dog returning the ring), good things will come to you. My favorite thing about this book is it's peek into the perspective of the socs as well as the greasers to make a statement about social class that things "are rough all over." In other words, money is just one factor in people's lives and does not define who they are or their background/past. This story could be read as a whole class to touch on a number of topics in Language Arts, including themes (social class, innocence, violence).

Similarly to Lumberjanes, this would be a great book for middle school to high schoolers, specifically girls looking for more action and sorcery in books with female protagonists.

She uses intentionally bad drawings and witty humor to look back on her childhood, retelling times like the one where she, her mother, and her sister got lost in the woods as well as the time a goose got loose in her house. She also shares her depression and other thought processes with us.
I find this book hilarious and relatable and think it'd be great for high school students.

On Harry's 11th birthday, he discovers that he's actually a wizard and is invited to attend Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he's sorted into a house team, meets his two best friends (Ron and Hermione), and begins the 7 year long fight against the dark wizard who killed his parents.
Harry Potter is one of my favorite book series because on top of the magic and fantasy genre, the same theme throughout the series is kept; that love and friendship are crucial and can conquer evil, which I think is incredibly important, especially for kids to be able to read about.
