Equality vs. Equity: Equality is giving all students the same materials and having them all have the same goal. Equity would be to have all students have the same goals but give each student the materials they need to accomplish the goals based on their individual starting points.

Educational equity is important because it means meeting our students where they are and providing them with the learning/supports they individually need. For example, Student A has no need for additional supports to meet mastery. This student would receive additional opportunities to expand his/her learning.
