         <description><![CDATA[<div>An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) was/is a way for congress to ensure that federal control over local school special education systems&nbsp; was decreased, and local schools had more control. <br><br><strong>Who Qualifies? (13 categories)&nbsp;</strong></div><div>&nbsp; Deafness<br>&nbsp; Emotional disturbance<br>&nbsp; Hearing impairment<br>&nbsp; Intellectual disability<br>&nbsp; Multiple disabilities<br>&nbsp; Orthopedic impairment<br>&nbsp; Other health impairment<br>&nbsp; Specific learning disability<br>&nbsp; Speech or language impairment<br>&nbsp; Traumatic brain injury<br>&nbsp; Visual impairment</div><div><br><strong>The Process is quite long, but let me try to sum it up!</strong><br><strong>1. </strong>School must conduct an IEP meeting by <br>&nbsp; - contacting all participants, including parents<br>&nbsp; - schedule meeting at a time and place<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; agreeable by parents and school <br>&nbsp; - parents may bring people ti the meeting who<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;have special knowledge or expertise about <br>&nbsp; the child<br><strong>2.</strong> IEP team (which includes the parent and student) write the students initial IEP<br><strong>3.</strong> Parents give consent to special services<br><strong>4.</strong> Child begins to receive services asap<br><br>*If parents do not agree with the IEP and placement, they may discuss their concerns with other members of the IEP team and try to work out an agreement. <br><br><strong>More info on the IEP process can be found here:<br>(I have included this article on your notes as well) :)</strong></div>]]></description>
