In this article, CEO of KPMG, Lynne Doughtie provides insight of the new inclusive culture starting to spread across businesses. She begins by reflecting on her childhood and her mother's behavior being charismatic and genuine toward everyone she met. Fast forward, Doughtie explains why and how she is implementing an inclusive environment among her employees. Doughtie's main goal is to allow her employees an even playing field when it comes to work. Everyone gets the same opportunities and everyone is included:

"To ensure this happens, an inclusive culture is vital – where every individual in the organization has the opportunity to contribute, and feels empowered to do so. At KPMG, we are intentional about leading with inclusion because we believe it strengthens our ability to make a tangible difference for our clients, our people, and society."

In chapter 4, we learned about altruism and egoism. Altruism being that someone truly cares about the well-being of others and Egoism being that someone only cares about their self-interest. It seems that Doughtie truly cares about her people through this article, but look in between the lines. She is the CEO of a company of more than 30,000 employees and she wants to create a business model to make everyone in the company happy, is she really doing this for her employees? Personally, I think that its with good intention, but truthfully, this is egoism. In her quote, she even mentions that she wants to lead with inclusion because it strengthens the company's ability to make a difference. She is not in fact, thinking solely of her employees and their equality. She is thinking with her company in mind and what will look best with herself in mind, too. This is a, "if I scratch your back, you scratch mine" scenario. Doughtie offers equality and inclusive in the work environment in hopes that her employees and clients stay within her company in return.

What do you think?

Doughtie, L. (2017).
