Importance of the word:  Testing allows students to demonstrate their level of understanding regarding a particular skill or task.  Tests allow teachers and institutions to determine performance of individuals/students.

Use in a Sentence:  Many teachers and educational experts contend standardized tests do not truly measure a student's understanding of material.
