Bass is the creator of the “Body Farm” (officially named the Anthropology Research Facility), the world's first laboratory for decomposition research. He is also known for his famous work to uncover reasons of death in famous cases such as the Lindberg baby and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson, who died in the 1959 plane crash that also killed musicians Buddy Holly and Richie Valens. Dr.Bass has also written multiple books one being named. Bass received a BA in psychology from the University of Virginia in 1951, a MS in anthropology from the University of Kentucky in 1956, and a PhD in anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1961. Bass also served for two years (1951–1953) in the US Army.
