I would say this is a 1st to 2nd grade book. This book could be used to teach onomatopoeia or help with fluency. Also this book could be educational on Hurricane Katrina. It could also be used to teach students how to help others. I really loved this book and thought it was sweet how everyone came together to help Cornelius after the Hurricane.

I read it around 5th or 6th grade and then again in college and then again now. It's one of my favorites. I think this would be a great 5th or 6th grade level book. This has great ideas that can be used for a culturally responsive classroom to get children to think about big picture ideas such as how memories that are lost can be good or bad and what memories should we keep, for example what cultural memories should we keep. I think this is also a great book to compare different societies and to teach that. This book would be great to use for new vocabulary words. I would most definitely integrate this into my class.

I would say that this would be a middle school to high school level book maybe anywhere from 8th grade to 12th but it could also be used in 7th grade as well. This would be a great book for students to read. This is also a VERY culturally responsive and multicultural book because it touches on ideas of deportation and how that plays out. Two young adults fall in love but one is to be deported. This book also carries some ideas of God which may be touchy to use in the classroom but would be good book for students to read if they would like. This could be used to teach the theme of American Dream and immigration. This could also be a great book to teach new vocabulary and to teach students a new way of looking at things. When I read this book I learned quite a bit about deportation that I didn't previously know and I think this is why this book would be good to have in my classroom.

This also has a bunch of really cute pictures and the plot is neat. I would say this is a 2nd or 3rd grade level book. This could be used to make connections from the text to events that happened in history since the book was wrote in a later time period. This could also be used to teach how to use your imagination to write a story as well.

MULTICULTURAL
Read: 9/3/18
Published: 1968
Great story with really adorable well done pictures and a really good plot. Good for children who are struggling with boy and girl friendships. I would say this is a kindergarten or 1st grade book maybe even a 2nd grade book. This could teach imagery in text as well as help with fluency. It could help teach prosody in fluency and it could teach children how to make inferences since the end did not tell what Peter wished for. I think this is a great book because it teaches children we can be friends with whoever we want. I also am a big fan of Ezra Jack Keats and anything that he writes and illustrates.

This is also a wordless book. I would say this is a kindergarten or 1st grade book. This could be used to teach onomatopoeia's since that is the only words that are in the book are the noises that the owl makes and so on. This could also be used to have students make predictions based on the pictures since the story is not written out for them. I think that this book is amazing and has a really good plot even though it has no words. The lion lets the mouse go and in the end the mouse saves the lion and that teaches a very valuable lesson I feel like.

This is a great classic book for students to read and learn about the roaring 20s. I would say this is a 9th or 10th grade level book but could be used in 8th grade maybe. Although this story may have some very scandalous parts for early aged readers, there are a lot of good teaching points that can be pulled from this book. This book could be used to teach about this time in history because this book as amazing imagery and talks about the time period very well. This book could also be used to teach new vocabulary that students aren't familiar with from this time period. Also this could be used to teach some great symbols like the green lantern, or to teach the ideas of symbolism as well as the ideas of theme. I think this is an outstanding book that I would keep in my classroom.

I would say this is a 3rd grade book level. This could be used to teach a new spin on the story Macbeth for children. I think this has a good plot and is told in a creative way. Also I think this could be used to teach vocabulary. I would have this in my classroom for children to read as a recreational read.

Also a cute book for children learning to read chapter books. This would be a 2nd grade level chapter book. This could be used to teach vocabulary throughout the book. Also this could be used to teach fluency in how to speak with expression. I also think this book teaches a lot of great lessons like how to handle a new baby, and how to be fair with others because Junie took toys from her friends but had to give them back because it wasn't appropriate that she had them bribe her to see her brother. Also at the end of this book it defines a few words kids wouldn't know. I would definitely keep this book in my classroom I thought the plot was adorable and I loved the pictures through the book. I would also read this as a group to the class.

Also I really do love these books for beginners who are starting to read chapter books. They're worded in a really cute way just like how a child would really talk. This would be a 2nd or 3rd grade level beginning chapter book. This could be used to teach vocabulary words to students. This could also be used as another book to teach rate and fluency and reading with expression because Junie B's voice is always full of expression when she's yelling or talking. I also think this is a great book for teaching values like right and wrong and the consequences that come with not listening to your teacher. I would want this in my class and would read this as a group to the class. This is adorable and I love the pictures throughout the book and Junies sense of humor.

Read: 9/27/18
Published: 1997
Great for students who deal with jealousy or might not understand the difference between society in the form of money, for example richer families and middle class families. Great to teach students a very valuable lesson about being alright with what you have an how that can be perfect in itself. This would be a good 2nd or 3rd grade level beginning chapter book. This could be used to teach new vocabulary words like the difference between conversation and conservation, words like madam, interruptions, pleasant and bounced. This could also be a great book to teach expression in reading and rate which are both parts of fluency. I also love the valuable lesson this story teaches children then you shouldn't be jealous of something that someone else has because what you have can be perfect itself. I think this story also has a good lesson in teaching right and wrong when Junie is over a Lucilles and is doing what her parents told her not to and how she got in trouble. I would definitely keep this in my classroom and read it to the whole class or recommend it to a child who is beginning to read chapter books. Junie B Jones was my favorite growing up I would want to pass that on.

Read: 9/27/18
Published: 1999
Seriously amazing book. Seriously. Great for children who are curious about the forest. Great for teaching children about many different concepts and values. This is one of the sweetest books I've ever read. Great for all children. I would say this is a 2nd or 3rd grade level beginning chapter book. This could be used to teach imagery in reading and writing. This could also be used to teach onomatopoeias. This would also be a great book for multiple types of fluency such as rate and prosody and teaching reading with expression. This would be awesome for vocabulary words such as frightened, slithering, thumping, poisonous and endangered. This book has some important facts in it that could be related to a science lesson or even a geography lesson as well. This book also has some great discussion questions in the back about the forest. After reading this book I promised myself I would buy the whole series. I LOVE these books and this taught a very important lesson about helping others even if they don't always treat you well, like how the children saved the wounded tiger even though it tried to eat them. I will read all of these stories as a whole to my class because I will have each and every one of these books.

Great book that is a beginner chapter book with pictures and a good series book. I would say this is a 2nd or 3rd grade level beginning chapter book. This could teach concepts like onomatopoeias and many vocabulary words such as scroll, parka, barren, and dogsled. This could also be a great book to teach imagery in text as well as predicting what might happen next in a book. Inferencing could be another good concept that could be used with this book. This would also be a good book for teaching fluency. I would make some ties to geography with this story as well. This also teaches some good life lessons like how killing in the polar ice caps is helpful for survival and isn't just mean. I would keep this book in my class and read this series to my class. I loved these books growing up and I still do.

This could be used to teach values like friendship as well as teaching vocabulary and word analysis. Also this could be used to teach point of view for a student.

NEWBERRY HONOR WINNER
Read: 9/19/18
Published: 2000
I absolutely love this story and everything about it. This is a great story to teach children about looking past judgments and to help them overcome some circumstances that they may be going through that are similar to what Opal went through when she moved to this new town and tried to make friends. I would say this is a 4th or 5th grade or even 6th grade level book. It has some ideas that may be inappropriate like Gloria being an alcoholic or Otis being an ex-convict so that may be an issue with teaching this book. This could be used to teach new vocabulary words as well as predicting what might happen in a story. This could also be used to teach some valuable lessons that students this age need to learn about "judging a book by its cover" and about making friends and being a friend. This would also be a great book to teach themes with as well. I will most definitely keep this story in my classroom I loved it as a child and I love it now.

Growing up I was not a fan of this book and then reading it as an adult I like it a little more. It does have some disturbing ideas that may be scary for younger readers like the plane driver having a heart attack or being stranded alone in the woods. This would be a good 7th or 8th grade level book I think. This could be used to teach the ideas of strength through the hardest of times. This could also be used to teach reading comprehension and vocabulary words that may be new to readers. This could also be used to teach setting and theme and some great discussion questions could be pulled from this book. This does have a very disturbing plot but overall I think the main ideas in this story and how this girl speaks up finally is what a lot of girls that are growing up right now need to hear.

Read: 9/27/18
Published: 2016
This is a really relate able book for students who may be going through difficult times that they want to forget. This is a great book to recommend students to read. I would say this is a 10th grade or 11th grade level book for upper high school students. This is about a girl who was a in a car accident and is seeing an imaginary boy who doesn't exist because of this accident. She soon realizes that this boy isn't imaginary and that this boy is a consequence of memories that she had erased because of a heart break that she had. She soon realizes she wishes she could go back and undo this memory erase because those very memories are what make her, herself. I think that is the best teaching concept that can be taken from this book is how our memories make us who we are. Also this could be used to teach plot and character development as well as may ideas in reading comprehension and making inferences. I would definitely keep this book in my classroom it is an awesome read.

This is a great book that teaches one to not judge a book by its cover and that our past experiences and choices do not define who we are. I think that this book teaches values that are valuable to these students at this age. This also could be used to teach vocabulary as well as providing a discussion that could be lead on theme. I would definitely keep this book in my classroom because the overall idea of getting to know someone despite their previous actions and choices in life is one I live by.
