Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has opened the Pantai Desaru Ferry Terminal in Kota Tinggi, which is expected to boost the tourism and economic sectors of southeast Johor.

The 63-year-old king explained that the ferry terminal, which includes the Immigration, Customs, and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) and maritime facilities, will improve international connectivity from Singapore and Batam, as well as Bintan in Indonesia's Riau Islands.

Perak's sole domestic airport, Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, has been in operation since the 1980s. 

The airport, which can accommodate commercial jet aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320, offers multiple daily flights to both domestic and Singapore destinations.

Lumut Maritime Terminal (LMT) and Lekir Bulk Terminal (LBT) are Perak's two seaports (LBT). The LMT transports both dry and liquid bulk cargos such as coal, limestone, petroleum products, and raw materials. It is also close to the Lumut Port Industrial Park, a major heavy industrial complex specialising in oil and gas fabrication and shipbuilding.

The LBT, on the other hand, is solely responsible for transporting coal to the Sultan Azlan Shah Power Station. It is currently the largest dry bulk unloading facility in South East Asia.

The major cities of Perak are well connected to the rest of Peninsular Malaysia by a vast network of roads and the North-South Expressway (NSE). It takes approximately 1.5 hours to travel from Ipoh to Penang and approximately 2 hours to travel from Ipoh to Kuala Lumpur.

Another expressway, the West Coast Expressway (WCE), is currently being built and will open in 2019. It will connect Taiping in Perak to Banting in Selangor, greatly improving connectivity between the two states, especially towards Port Klang.
