This term 4J read the text Rowan of Rin written by the amazing author Emily Rodda. In this novel my favourite character is Rowan because he is shown as a helpful but anxious character. As the seven brave warriors climbed up the mountain they faced huge obstacles but even though Rowan was anxious he was determined to get the water in Rin flowing again and to help the others up the mountain.

During this event in chapter 12 Rowan is portrayed as an anxious character when he is crawling through the tight tunnel that is darker and cramped. On page 116 Emily Rodda states “ He screwed his eyes up tightly.” Which shows he is a fearful. This verb group ‘screwed up his eyes more tightly’ shows he is a concerned character because in the dark cave Rowan shut his eyes full of terror then took a deep breath. If he shut his eyes it shows he is afraid and he is trying to avoid his terrible fears. Therefore the reader can clearly see the skinny rabbit is an anxious character while going through the narrow tunnel.

In chapter 12 Rowan is shown as a helpful character when Strong Jonn is exhausted after crawling through the tight tunnel. It states on page 123 “ he helped Jonn over the rocks.” When he was tiered and couldn’t go on Rowan helped him. This use of verb demonstrates that Rowan is a considerate character because Strong Jonn

This term, our class 4J read the interesting text Rowan of Rin, a famous quest novel written by the well-known author, Emily Rodda. My favourite character is Rowan because he is a determined and confident member of the quest party. As the seven strong warriors climb up the mountain to investigate about the stream. Rowan is positive to save his buksha and the village.

In chapter 12, Rowan is portrayed as a confident character. On page 117, Emily Rodda states “Come on! We are there! We are there!” shouted Rowan”. This dialogue shows Rowan is determined to get Strong Jonn to go with him although they are both weak and vulnerable because they were terrorised and hurt throughout the quest especially during the tight crawl inside the tunnel. Therefore the readers can see that the little skinny rabbit is actually convinced to finish the quest to save his buksha and the village.

Emily Rodda shows Rowan is a reliable character when they were about to enter the cavern. On page 123 it states “He helped Jonn over the rocks”. This verb group ‘helped Jonn over the rocks’ shows that Rowan is a dependable character as he helps others in need. Rowan the coward is being responsible and the readers may think he can be trusted. Therefore he is a sincere character.

I like this book greatly. This fabulous author Emily Rodda has made fascinating characters, all unique complete challenges. It has used many language features making it interesting to read. I think the readers should be aged from 8-10.

This term 4J read the quest novel, Rowan of Rin, a famous quest novel written by the highly-renowned author Emily Rodda. My most favourite character is Rowan because he is a caring and hopeful member of the quest party. The seven brave warriors determinedly discover what is blocking the water to flow and climbs up the mountain. Rowan displays good character traits throughout the journey which keep the group spirit to continue on.

In chapter 12, Rowan is portrayed as a caring and helpful character as Jonn loses hope, and gives up, being effortless, slowly dying. On page 123, it states that 'He helped Jonn over the rocks' as Jonn's scars are weakening him in the icy, cold weather. Rowan does his best to heal Strong Jonn so they can save the village of Rin together. The verb 'helped' shows that Rowan is a thoughtful member because he refuses to leave Jonn in the cold, dying. Instead he carries him into a cave, recovering him with warmth. Skinny rabbit takes Jonn of the orchard out of the cave and the remaining members continue their uncompleted task. The evidence clearly represents Rowan as a hopeful and considerate member in the party.

In chapter 12, Rowan is displayed as a considerate character as Jonn falls asleep with painful scars in the cold. It states on page 120 that 'He took off his jacket and wrapped it around his hands.' when Jonn slowly falls asleep with his wounds from the tunnel. Rowan cures him so they can finish off their quest together. The verb group 'took off' shows the reader that he cares about Jonn and doesn't care about freezing to death. This also shows that the herder of the bukshah, is confident tht they will complete the quest together, leaving no one else behind. The evidence clearly represents Rowan as a thoughtful member of the quest party. This makes the readers think that Rowan is a good, positive member to the group.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this quest novel and the interesting range of language features Emily Rodda used. She used different language features to make settings and characters more interesting. These language features excite the readers being entertained and wanting to discover what happens in the end. I recommend ages eight to thirteen.

This term 4J read the quest novel Rowan of Rin. Everyone liked Rowan because he is gentle.

In chapter 12 Rowan is a cooperative character. On page 120 “Rowan took off his jacket and wrapped it around his hands.”The verb group wrapped shows that Rowan is a friendly character. When strong Jonn was tired and looked like he was gonna quit the quest Rowan made Jonn comfortable in a soft and respectful way which shows he is a gentle character. Therefore Rowan is a friendly character.

Emily Rodda shows that Rowan is a beneficial character. On page 123 Rowan helped Strong Jonn over the rock and walked to the cavern. The use of the verb of verb helped demonstrates he is helpful to Strong Jonn. When he was intensely tired Rowan assisted him to keep on and to not give up. The evidence Cleary represents Rowan is a cooperative character.

This term 4J read the famous text, Rowan of Rin by the well-known author Emily Rodda. My most favourite character is Strong Jonn because he is positive and adventurous. When the 7 brave hearts advance up the mountain, Strong Jonn kept Rowan going in a kind way.

In chapter 12 Strong Jonn is portrayed as a positive character when they climb the mountain. The strong orchard keeper spoke on page 114 “That is real bravery, Rowan” telling him to continue on the quest. With his insane bravery, he made it all the way to almost the mountain top. He’ll think the brave bukshah keeper is strong enough to continue on and face the dragon. This dialogue shows he believes in Rowan. He’s respected him ever since they started their journey. Therefore the reader can see he has a kind personality

Emily Rodda shows that Strong Jonn is an adventurous character in chapter 12 when Jonn was leaning on Rowan. On page 121 it states that “They pushed their way through the snow.” Although the snow was hard and needed strength to move through, they still carried on. Despite Strong Jonn was feeling weak, he still braved through the heavy white fluff ignoring his strength. The fact he is leaning on the bukshah herder shows he’s been weakened, however the orchard keeper didn’t rest and was focused on the main quest to save Rin. The evidence clearly represents Strong Jonn as a courageous character.

I enjoyed the book because it’s interesting and it described how things are. Also giving good personalities. Although the chapters are hard to understand the storyline flows well. I recommend years 2-5.
