- There are 5 modes of adaption.

  • Conformity - person accepts both the goals and the means 
    • Most common mode in society
  • Innovation - person accepts goals but rejects the means
    • Wants the same thing as the conformist but uses illegitimate means to acquiring them, more likely to be criminal
  • Ritualism - rejects the goals but accepts the means 
    • Slow process
  • Retreatism  - rejects the goals and means 
  • Rebellion - does not want the goals n the means of society and wishes to change social structure. (proposes new goals and means)
