If aligned to NGSS, this means that students are learning about disciplinary core ideas, using science and engineering practices, and thinking about science ideas using cross cutting concepts. In school science, students' ideas, questions, and lived experiences should be centered, and they should engage in collaborative sense-making, and discourse, all while building progressively more complex understanding of science ideas across multiple domains.

While science can provide the thinking skills to analyze climate change and it's impacts, and determine related facts necessary to base decisions about solutions on, social studies teaches students how to respectfully and compassionately engage in the public process to make science based decisions that are just and ecologically sustainable.

Most of this knowledge is at least 50 years old, and often over 100 years old.

Climate justice education recognizes several important things. First, that global warming was not an accident. The people who promoted policies and societal structures that have caused global warming knew they were doing it. Second, the wealth accrued by high emission practices has been concentrated in just a few countries, and in just a few hands within those countries, while the damage has been inflicted on groups that were already poor and marginalized. Climate justice education means teaching that the effects of global warming are essentially a brutal assault by obscenely wealthy oil and gas companies on the lives of the poor and downtrodden.

I have noticed that it is very science based, but sometimes that becomes inaccessible for younger students and grades. It can also be very scary for them and very depressing. It can make students feel like there isn't anything they can do. The typical curriculum also doesn't address the historic trend of certain communities experiencing the brunt of the impact.

I have seen instances where teachers present incorrect information because that is what we were taught 10-20 years ago.
