I had to look up what mainstream science was . I’m not a science teacher so I didn’t know what it referred to. I learned that it’s about ideas that are supported by the scientific community and backed by reliable evidence.

I think this is a missing component in our society right now where anyone can google a topic and try to find “scientific” articles that support their beliefs- even if it’s not supported by reliable data and/or evidence. There’s way too much misinformation because of this and it has led to people believing outrageous things.

When I think of mainstream science education, I think of the standard body of scientific knowledge that is found in pretty much every textbook. Most of this knowledge is at least 50 years old, and often over 100 years old. That is not to say that it does not have value, but more that in an emphasis to get students "up to speed" on all of what science has learned, topics of modern relevance frequently do not make it on to the list.

Empowering them with knowledge to seek solutions to climate crises we are facing globally AND locally would be my best guess.
