Child Poverty is a major social issue. It is essentially defined as the situation of children that are born in poor families that lack resources such as food, education, accommodation for disabilities which causes deprivation, lack of communication, emotional and cognitive development, and health issues. As a result, they are at a greater risk of poor academic achievement, school dropout, abuse, and neglect.

Canada’s child benefit (CCB) is a tax-free payment given to help families with the cost of raising children until the age of 18. (we believe this is a short term solution to a long term problem as it can be quite ineffective as payments are subject to change or stop depending on the family’s situation, reports and status.

For instance, “in 2016, the Ontario Government promised to ensure families kept all of their Canada Child Benefits and promised to eliminate cuts to child support payments as of 2017”. Especially during COVID-19, according to this article, it states “the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic could push up to 86 million more children into household poverty by the end of 2020, an increase of 15 percent, according to a new analysis released today by Save the Children and UNICEF”. At this time, children are in desperate need of assistance from us to support them and raise money to help them rise and give them proper education.
