She has always been a thoughtful, positive and calming influence on others. She seems to have a special insight into teaching and teachers and is good at organizing her own learning on site or with distance learning. Her twin brother will be at another school for the first time in their lives, and while this can be positive for their growth, they will be missing each other and are very close and had applied together last year. Our family, like many here, are doing our best in this era, but to be honest, we skirt overwhelm, like many families at this time. We will be balancing our time and energy to support our kids in their schools. We take delight in our daughter's excitement in the upcoming school year and share her anticipation.

Opportunities for her to continue her love of creative writing?
3. We wonder about homework workload estimates because we are not high pressure, fast-track parents; instead, our family enjoy learning as an organic, integral part of our lives, and as an educator, I know that stress blocks learning. How do you help kids navigate the affective factors on their learning?
4. We love your grounds and gardens and are wondering about food-based projects. Our child likes to create and experiment in the kitchen. :)

We love animals and we raise monarch butterflies and we foster baby raccoons and baby opossums. We also have 3 cats and a bird! Animals and nature are very important to us. At the same time, Annelise is compassionate and thinks about those less fortunate than her. She worries about the homeless, climate change and animals that might go extinct. She thinks that she wants to be a changemaker. As a family, we talk a lot about how the things we do and the choices we make, affect the people around us and the planet. For fun, we love to bike ride and she is on the ski team and swim team.

We're also curious about the vision for the fall — whether Park Day can utilize its outdoor space/California weather to minimize the chance of an outbreak. We're also curious to hear Angela Taylor's vision for the school and what changes we can expect.

Leo loves to create, whether it's a complex lego structure or sculpture out of found items. He loves being outside in nature. Our family loves animals and we spend a lot of time talking about wildlife. Leo also loves to be active. Mountain biking and soccer are two of his favorite sports. It can take him some time to find his voice in new places or with new people, but once he does you'll hear all sorts of stories and interesting facts about what he most recently learned. :)

Kieran Holbrook's parents here. What does distance learning look like for Kindergarten, our son is not a fan of zoom classes that his preschool has been doing and we are unsure how this might work. Hoping to hear about the virtual program for young kids as well as physical back to school options!

I attended a progressive elementary school and while i loved it, i felt that it was too small- my hope is the Park is the right size- big enough to have a variety of classmates yes small enough to provide the community based and individual attention of a progressive school. Our son, Kieran, was completely smitten with the garden, the gardening program and Mr Josh. After coming for an open house, he declared that that was the kindergarten he wanted to go to.

You were attracted to Park Day school by its long history of progressive education in the Bay Area. We have personal friends who are graduates and now send their children. The values of Park Day attracted us and the dedicated faculty, beautiful grounds, and exciting experience-based curriculum. And the real kitchen, garden, and chef associated with the lunch program. Way too much is outsourced in today’s economy. We want our child to learn the power of value self-sufficiency and community labor.

The "Love of Learning" tagline stood out to me. I also loved reading the line about how each child is deeply known as I feel that is so important for a child. Also, the social justice piece, I want my child to think bigger than herself, to think about her community, globally, to do for others.

I hope my child finds a love learning and feels confident and proud of her abilities. I hope she is inspired academically and personally by teachers and administrators and finds at least one teacher who knows her well, believes in her champions her, who she feels close to. I hope she makes best friends and feels liked and included and truly part of a school family. I hope she learns and feels confident in her ability to navigate friendships. I hope she feels more passion about serving her community and feels proud of her participation around such service.
