1.Social Change in 2020

Social Change is "the transformation of culture and social institutions over time" (Macionis 526). An example of this happening currently is the LGBTQ rights movement. In the article listed below, it talks about how the "LGBTQ people continue to face discrimination in their personal lives, in the workplace and the public sphere, and in their access to critical health care"(American Progres). I chose this article because it talks about the problems these people are trying to fix with social change, the LGBTQ community has been discrimanated for too long and change is coming.

Collective behavior is "activity involving a large number of people that is unplanned, often controversial, and can bring about change"(Macionis 528). An example of a fad that was big for a short amount of time is a trend called "Vibe Check", this trend was super easy and involved just drinking a cranberry juice and vibing to the song "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac. I chose this trend because 2020 has been stressfull but many people have came together and did this trend out of no where. This trend died out quick but brought awarness to just chill out and keep calm even druing a pandemic.

Modernity is the "changes brought about the industrial Revolution"(Macionis 533). I believe that since a lot of us use smart phones , it has changed how many people live their lives.People would rather talk to each other through text instead of face to face or won't even realize what is going on around them like the little meme below. I chose this little funny meme because the guy literally chose his phone over his girlfriend which shows that change is not always good.
Source:https://digitalsynopsis.com/buzz/smartphone-addiction-funny-sad-images/

This part of the chapter talks about how people technically have power through capitalism. Capitalism creates an elite group of people who have a bunch of money. According to Forbes.com, they proclaim that Jeff Bezos is the richest man in the world right now being "worth $113 billion" (Forbes), this creates inequality since many people are in poverty while Bezos keeps getting richer everyday. "A few people are still born to wealth and power" (Macionis 341). These people and their families are going to stay rich for a long time while nothing is being done to stop poverty.

Since we are so diverse these days, it is "difficult for many people to establish any coherent identity at all"(Macionis 542). I chose this cartoon of a guy pointing at himself in a mirror because it represents him trying to figure out his identity. It is like his mirror self is trying to tell him that only he can identify himself.
Source: https://inveraveritasblog.wordpress.com/2017/10/29/2-1-personality-our-personal-identity/

I chose a music video called "Lucid Dreams" by Juice Wrld for postmodernity because this song goes with the theme of postmodernism. This song is a sad song about love, people " of a post modern society are less confident about what the future holds"(Macionis 546). This song is all about how he lost hope about his future with love.

"The twentieth century witnessed unprecedented human achievement...yet many solutions to many of human existence...conflicts between two nations and eliminating poverty"(Macionis 547). I chose this article about what is happening in Yemen because we have people like Jeff Bezos with tons of money but "yemen is the largest humanitarian crisis in the world, with more than 24 million people... in need of humanitarian assistance, including more than 12 million children"(UNICEF). We need to be able to solve these issues.
