For this short block you are going to study some biographical writing. This means that you are going to be writing about the life of someone else. 
It is important to listen carefully and maybe list some of the key features so you can go back to them when you come to write the biography. It might be useful to write some examples of what those features look are.

For your main task, use the extracts of text about Maya Angelou shown in the video and find examples of the features given. You should present your work by listing the feature and putting an example that you found in the text next to it. You could do something like this:

This is an important lesson as you will be getting all the information you need to write your biography.
The inspirational figure you will be writing about is Harriet Tubman, who was known for fighting to get slavery abolished. 
Have a look at the examples of how you want to organise your information, maybe you want to use a mind map, or just split your page up into subheadings. 
The three areas you will gather information on are:
  • Harriet Tubman’s early life
  • How she led others to freedom
  • Her part in the Civil War
Remember to only use keywords and phrases as today’s lesson is like a plan. It might also be useful to think about the key vocabulary you would want to include to stay factual.
