When I was 2, I got lost in the busy streets of China. I had moved back there when I was one. I was holding my mom's hand when we were walking, but as soon as I turned around, she vanished. Like any child, I started hysterically crying. A stranger walked up and said they knew my mom, and that htey would bring me to her. I didn't trust that person and started running away to hide in the crowd of people. I bumped into my Aunt, who happened to be visitng the same place I was at. She got me back to my mom, and I reunited with her.

Being lost in an urban area, while also nearly being abducted, definitely told me to be more aware of my surroundings. From then on, I made sure to be by my mom's side, until I could be independent enough to no do so.

When I was 6, I started getting frequent stomach aches, and they were all unsually painful. When I went to the bathroom to get rid of them, they would pop back up a few hours later. I went to the hospital, where I stayed for a week. My mom was the only person who could take care of me. My aunts, cousins, and grandma visited, but I was often too tired to proeprly greet them. When I got discharged, I hugged my mom as tightly as I could. No one esle would put into so much hard work to take care of me.

This experience, while as painful dreadful as it is, taught me that family will be there for you no matter what. While none of my friends bothered to visit me, many of my close family members did, and of course, my mom took care of me indefatigably. I will always be grateful for everything my family has done for me, especially my mom.

I moved from Bayside to Long Island where I attended a public school named Buckley Country Day. It was the first place where I met some true friends. Not everything was perfect however. A lot of kids were neglected by the "popular kids", and there were well-known cliques and social circles. You had to force yourself into friend groups, instead of being welcomed in. I sat alone for my entire first day at Buckely. My friend named Arsh was the first one to actually talk to me, and while we didn't know much about one another, we still felt like friends. I made my way into many of the social circles at Buckley. I gained the confidence to do so all because of Arsh. He was the first to approach me and inspired me to do the same with my other classmates.

All I needed to do was be confident to start making friends. From this experience, I learned that all you needed is to ask. I asked if I could join in on a conversation, and I became friends with the people around me. Asking questions or just asking to take part in something can lead you to success.

When I was 12, I applied to four "prestigious" independent schools in the city. One of them was Avenues, and the other was Dalton. There was a big candal where an Asian father faked nearly all of his daughter's academic achievements in order to get accepted into another NY private school. It was right around the time I applied to Dalton. I got rejected from Dalton, but I was accepted into Avenues. The two schools are polar opposites. I never really thought about race, but on a visit to Dalton, I saw that there were only a few Asian students. Most of them were caucasion.

I wasn't accepted into Dalton, which led me to think that I wasn't smart enough to get in. However, since I was accepted into Avenues, I think I have a different kind of self-worth. This event was focused on race, and how that played a part in school admissions. I think the moral of this experience, was to not let your appearance define you.

Claim: In my life, a bad event always had a positive upside, which instilled a moral or lesson for me to remember, as can be seen when I was lost, and I couldn't find my mom, when I was tirelessly taken care of by my mom when I was in the hospital, when I managed to find a life-long friend on my first day attending private school, and when I joined Avenus, but was rejected by Dalton.
