I chose this album because Mastodon is one of my favorite progressive metal bands and because it fit the necessary requirements. Emperor of Sand is a concept album telling the story of a sultan who was tasked with carrying out a death sentence to the main character. I wrote about multiple songs from the album but I mainly targeted "Show Yourself" and "Ancient Kingdom" to write about in detail because of my favoritism and because I used them to identify certain musical elements mentioned by Ben Ratliff. The two elements I brought up were repetition and transmission.
