The journalist have problems deciding on if they should expose the government and the secrets they are keeping or if they should keep the secrets secret, protect their firm and ruin the trust that they have with the public.

Women are portrayed as lesser the men in this field so Katharine has to prove that she can keep up and hold her own, even if she had to use unorthodox methods , as she's being questioned and not trusted to make the right decisions all centered around the fact that she's a woman.

I would say I would also like to see this type of situation in a modern setting, seeing as women in work fields are treated and valued way better than used to be. Also getting information from government would be easier with the technological devices and rules we have now.

Some of her methods may be questionable, but it's understandable given that she is a woman and feels compelled to resort to such tactics because the men around her do not trust her.

Because she is in a male-dominated industry shes faking skepticism and pressure from both the government and her own team. she does struggle a little bit with her role as a publisher and responsibilities. Though the movie shows her growth in confidence and leadership.
