The purpose of this activity is for students to extend their understanding of the world around them where they can recognise and discriminate the different sounds by creating their own artwork. This activity can help support the student’s cognitive development as they explore meaning and interpretation of different noises, tones and voices. Where they’re able to feel connected with and contribute to their world, allowing them to explore their own mind and to be independent with what they’re hearing. Connecting to The Early Years Learning Framework, Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world. Children develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities and an understanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community participation.

Reflection

During the activity, I could notice the students recognising different sounds when it comes to listening to the YouTube video, Cal noticed how the breathing reminded him meditation and how calming and relaxing it was, whilst Amber noticed the water flowing over the rocks and how loud it was. Through this activity, it has helped me reflect on how each student has a different interpretation when it comes to listening the video, even though they all listened to the same video. For my future learning experiences, I aim to set a practice where children are able to explore the natural place instead where they can experience it first-hand rather than listening to a video, that way they can discover and engage while being curious of what’s happening around them. As well as, sitting in an area where they feel comfortable whilst being calm and relaxed during the experience.
