Comply with the ground rules that your group agree during induction with your Learning mentor 

 

During your PDC sessions all students will: 

·        Track your progress on your course 

·        Assess personal strengths and weaknesses

·        Action plan for improving your grades 

·        Setting targets and reviewing them 

·        Develop study skills 

·        Review your progress in One to One interview with your PDC each trimester 

·        Participate in enrichment activities 

·        Represent your group and course at Rep meetings 

 

Ask your PDC about how you can become a class REP. Each week all Course / class Reps meet with the teaching staff about college and course issues – a great chance to air your views and be listened to!

 

Each student embarking on the Step Up/On Programme

along with the support and guidance from your PDC you will be responsible in maintaining a detailed Individual learning Plan (ILP)

 

This is intended to be used to enable a student to keep track of their progress, monitor and record their achievements on their course and set individual targets during the duration of each unit studied and review them once a trimester 

 

Students will be expected to record such details as : 

 

·        Volunteering

·        Trips/visits and residential activities 

·        Attendance summaries

·        Unit target grades and actual achievement

·        One to one review

 

Your ILP will be personal to you and will become a useful tool when preparing for moving on and progression, 

 

It is vital to show your commitment to the course through adherence to a few basic rules:

 To catch up on any targets and work missed following authorised absence

·        A wide range of assessments

·        Workshop activities and tasks to complete independently and as a team 

·        A range of visiting speakers and lectures

·        Visits and Trips experiences

 

In most cases this can be done informally through your PDC who will address the issue with the unit assessors and teaching team to consider your work against the criteria 

 

·        If you are unhappy about a mark or grade awarded then you should speak to your PDC in the first instance and ask for further clarification of the assessment decision.  The tutor will provide this clarification using the assessment criteria for the assignment

 

·        No appeal can be made against the academic judgement of the tutor in awarding the mark or grade

 

·        If you believe there has been maladministration of the assessment process, resulting in an unfair assessment, you should appeal in writing to the internal verifier and the Assistant Academy Manager (AAM).  The name of the internal verifier will be in this Course Handbook.  Your statement must make clear the grounds for the appeal and the nature of the alleged maladministration

 

·        The AAM will investigate the alleged maladministration and subsequently may either:

-      Dismiss your appeal; or

-      Uphold your appeal and require your assignment to be re-submitted and/or re-assessed; or

-      Uphold your appeal and require a new assignment to be set where it would be inappropriate to re-submit and/or re-assess the original assignment.

 

·        If you are not satisfied with the AAM’s decision, you may appeal to the academy Assistant Principal (AP).  The AP will investigate the circumstances of the appeal and may:

-      dismiss your appeal; or

-      uphold your appeal and require your assignment to be re-submitted and/or re-assessed; or

-      uphold your appeal and require a new assignment to be set where it would be inappropriate to re-submit and/or re-access the original assignment

 

·        The AP’s decision will be final

 

If the learner is unhappy with the outcome of the college’s internal appeals procedure detailed above, s/he should follow the appeals procedure laid down by the awarding body.
