The respiratory system gives oxygen to the cells. Oxygen is in the air. We inhale, and it goes into the nasal or oral cavity, through the pharynx/throat and larynx/voicebox, and down the trachea/windpipe. The oxygen molecules go through the bronchial tubes into the bronchioles, then the alveoli. There, they are transferred into the capillaries to be brought to the cells with a low concentration of oxygen, where diffusion occurs to put the oxygen in the cells for energy.
