         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>What is received pronunciation/RP?</strong> <br>- Received pronunciation is a higer class english accent.<br><br><strong>How did RP come into being?</strong>&nbsp;<br>- Because the upper class wanted to distance them selves from the lower class.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div><strong>What is characteristic of Cockney as opposed to RP? Give examples.</strong>&nbsp;<br>- Cockney is spoken by lower class people and RP was the accent of the higher.          <title>Group 2: Changes in society:</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>1. The way one would produce books and scripts, would now take a fraction of the time that it used to. Which can now be seen as a very crucial part of english culture.<br><br>2. Basically what kind of language that should be used in the products that they sell, to be sure of most profit. That proved to be difficult due to the lack of uniformity.<br><br>3. Besides it being a nuisance for businessmen selling the books, it showed a divide in peoples language on many levels. Difficulty level, dialect, and so on.<br><br>4. It was a sort of revolution. Now that such a variety of different books, from over 50 different langauges now was available and collected in just one language was extraordinary.<br><br>5. A lot of people turned their attention to the likes of Copernicus, Columbus, and Newton who all in their respectful fields were revered by their work.</div>]]></description>

How different was the English language by the Early Modern period?<br>&nbsp;<br></strong>Much different, cause in the beginning of the period, nobody knew how to write or print correctly. &nbsp;<br><br></div><div><strong>2. Why do we need to distinguish between Early Modern English language and Modern English Modern English language? <br></strong>around the end of Early Modern English Period, the language English seemed<br>not all that different from the English we know about today. Still, it makes good sense to distinguish between Early Modern and Modern English as many words have acquired new or different meanings and the pronunciation has changed considerably.<br><br></div><div><strong>3. Give an example from Jane Austen’s Emma of a word which had a different meaning in 1816. <br></strong>(essay = attempt), (inmate = a person living in a house, not a prison), (grateful = satisfactory).<strong><br></strong><br></div><div><strong>4.
