I was accepted into the Teach for America Corp that year and moved almost across the country. I spent two years in South Dakota in the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation teaching 5th grade Literacy. I taught at a small school in a very rural town that served a 100% Native population. I also coached volleyball while there. I now teach in the School District of Philadelphia in 2nd grade. I am pursuing my masters in Reading because I strive to be the best literacy teacher I can be. I am in love with the beach and assembled my own beach bike! I work a part time job at a pizza place around the corner from me to save for traveling and a few weddings I will be in soon. I have two sisters and really enjoy spending time with them as well as with my mom. I live in Fairmount and love trying new restaurants. However, I am a country girl at heart and keep my '89 red Dodge Ram pick up at my moms in the suburbs. One day I hope to live on or own a farm! I love an adventure and am willing to try anything once. I spent two weeks of my summer backpacking through Mt. Rainier National Park and parts of the Olympic Peninsula. It was one of the most challenging things I have done, but simultaneously exhilarating and validating. My favorite part of the day is when I work with small groups of children. I would love to explore being a Reading Specialist at a school. One day (not in the near future) I would love to start a family of my own and I hope that I get to stay in touch with the education world by tutoring children while raising my children.
