Visit the Rocket Lab website and find the answers to these questions. Answer them in full sentences on your Padlet. Use the ‘About Us’ heading on website:

What is Rocket Lab’s mission? Rockets Labs mission is to remove the barriers to commercial space by providing frequent launch opportunities to low Earth orbit.

Who created Rocket Lab and when? Peter Beck created Rocket Lab in 2006.

Watch the short video clip under the ‘What we do’ heading. Jot down 2-3 things you found out watching video clip. 1. Today it costs 130 million dollars to buy a rocket. 2. The polo flew twice and it costed 3.6 billion dollars a flight.

List the Board of Directors of this company. Peter Beck, Sven Strohband, David Cowan, Scott Smith, Matt Ocko.

Watch the video presentation under the ‘History’ heading. Use the blue spot on right hand side to watch clips of Rocket Lab’s progress over time. Answer these questions from the video clip:

When and where did the Atea 1 Rocket launch? The Atea 1 launched on 2:30pm 30th of November 2009 on the great mercury island.

Click on the ‘Electron’ heading. What is the ‘Electron’ What is its height? It's height is 17 meters. What is its max payload weight? The max weight is 225kg. Answer in new box on Padlet.

The Electron is a new design of rocket. Read then cut and paste the paragraphs about ‘Plug-in Payload’. Add in the image to your Padlet. Electron's payload fairing is designed to decouple payload integration from the main assembly. Rocket Lab's standard process is to integrate payloads at the launch site in a traditional manner.

However, with the Rocket Lab "Plug-In Payload" module, the customer can choose to manage this process using their own preferred facilities and personnel. Environmentally controlled or sealed payload modules are transported back to Rocket Lab where integration with the Electron vehicle can occur in a matter of hours.

Rocket Lab's novel approach eliminates the risk of cascading delays, and enables customers to have standby payloads ready to go.

Read then cut and paste the Kick Stage paragraphs. Add the image next to the text. Continue on down page and add info about two other parts of the rocket. One part of the rocket is the carbon composite materals which make the rocket a lightweight. Another part of the rocket is the 3D printing. The rocket has a 3D printed oxygen engine.

An apogee kick stage that can execute multiple burns to place numerous payloads into different, circularized orbits. It opens up significantly more orbital options, particularly for rideshare customers that have traditionally been limited to the primary payload’s designated orbit. Powered by Rocket Lab's 3D printed liquid propellant Curie engine capable of 120N of thrust and multiple burns.

An revolutionary engine called ‘Rutherford’ is used on this rocket. Parts of it are made using 3D printing. Add a new box and explain what 3D printing is. Add in an image of a 3d printer. 3D printing is the process of making a physical object from a three-dimensional digital model. It is made by laying down many thin layers of a material in succession.

Go to Gallery heading and add 5-6 images to your Padlet. Label each image with the text on the image.

Where are Rocket Lab’s launch sites? Rocket Lab's launch sites are at Mahia, New Zealand, Cape Canaveral, Florida, Pacific Spaceport Complex, Alaska.

Rocket Lab has created the Humanity Star, a satellite that orbits the earth. Go to this website and find out about this amazing creation: Humanity Star (use the About tab) Put these details into new box on your Padlet - What is the Humanity Star? The Humanity Star is a geodesic sphere made from carbon fibre with 76 highly reflective panels. It spins rapidly, reflecting the sun’s rays back to Earth, creating a flashing light that can be seen against a backdrop of stars. What causes it to flash? It flashes because it reflects the suns rays back to earth. How often does it orbit the earth? The Humanity Star orbits the earth every 90 minutes. Cut and Paste the last paragraph from the Under One Sky section to your Padlet. Use the FAQ and cut and paste the info about How Can I see the Humanity Star.

Wait for when the Humanity Star is overhead and take your loved ones outside to look up and reflect. You may just feel a connection to the more than seven billion other people on this planet we share this ride with." Peter Beck

You can track the Humanity Star’s location at www.TheHumanityStar.com to find out when it will be overhead and visible in your region. Depending on where the Humanity Star’s is in its orbital path, it may be months before it is clearly visible in your part of the world.

As the Humanity Star experiences drag from the atmosphere at the lowest point in its orbit, the satellite will slow down creating a slight alteration in the orbital path. For this reason, any predicted pass times more than three days away will only be a general anticipated time, rather than exact viewing times. The farther the anticipated pass time, the less accurate it will be, so check the tracker as the time gets closer for a more accurate calculation. Once a pass is within 24 hours, the accuracy of the Humanity Star’s position will be refined to minutes.
