Watching her develop friendships and relationships with peers and fellow staff members has been absolutely incredible. She came into our class timid, but has blossomed into an advocate for her education. Throughout the year, I've been able to develop a relationship with her parents as well. I had a student say he had little to be grateful for. I read it and made a point to really connect with him. He studied these, and practiced 60 minutes a day on the fork lift simulator, he was the second highest score...going  that little extra, will make a difference in this students life with a great job after graduation.

After a morning of saying goodbye with me this student got into a battle of wills with a sub across the hall. I heard it and asked the Sub if this student could stay with me for a cool down. This boy went to the back of my room and as I walked back I realized these may be my last words to him. This sassy, alpha-male, who I had grown to love despite his shout outs and disruptive manner...was now about to leave my room and I wanted nothing more than to hug him and tell him that I KNEW he was a good boy. So that is what I did. And this preteen boy melted and the tears he let run were both loud and unrestrained as I just said "You are a good boy. A good and Smart boy" and we talked like old ladies about life and how it was hard for just a few minutes...and then I said goodbye to him. Everyone attends the football and basketball games but rarely attend the smaller sports at the school. It was great seeing the kids wrestle and excited to see support from a teacher.
