Hij verloor de controle over het stuur en kon een fietser niet ontwijken. Hij knalde tegen een boom.

Gelukkig bleef de fietser ongedeerd. Steven was er erger aan toe. Door de gecompliceerde, open beenbreuk liep hij een zware infectie op waardoor zijn rechteronderbeen geamputeerd werd.

Hij wacht nu op een prothese waarmee hij terug moet leren stappen. Door het ongeval zijn zijn onderste tanden uit en is zijn netvlies gescheurd. 

Hij heeft nachtmerries van het ongeval waardoor hij overdag doodmoe is.
