A home is a shelter someone lives and feels comfortable at.
To me a home is a place where I feel my happiest and most comfortable to be living.
Personal touches and memories makes it my home.
home gives me comfort and a sense of freedom because of the area.
I live in the Lake District although currently I am in University accommodation (my answers are based off the lake district). In the future i wish to live in Manchester, I have family here and I enjoy the city making me feel comfortable here. I also think it will help me to continue to fully appreciate the Lake District for when i go back to visit.
pros of the lake district:
beautiful area, calming and peaceful, great place for clearing your head and helps with mental health.
Cons of the lake district:
In the peak season times it is busy and can get noisy. Lack of transport makes it hard to travel. High prices due to tourism.
If this was taken away...
If this was taken away i would lose the connections i have their (friends and family), that sense of freedom and comfort that supports my mental health.
I would feel a sense of loss as it is where i have grown up and had my childhood.

A home is a place for reflection and rest. It can also feel constricting, though. My home is a small, messy flat with no garden and a hidden back entrance as front door. I live with my partner, and sometimes it can feel increasingly cramped and overwhelming. I would like to live somewhere with a huge garden and greenhouse, with room to shut the whole world out- and have an expansive family of dogs. If i lost my housing i would be losing stability, probably a lot of my possessions, and would likely have to move from manchester back to my family, or use what money i have to buy myself time with temporary accommodation. While this situation sounds horrible, it is still advantageous compared to someone who has been homeless for prolonged period of time.

I think everyone has a different and personal relationship with the concept of home. Whilst for some people, it may be the house they grew up in for others, they may have a more abstract, and less tangible concept of what home means.
For myself, pretty much the only connection I have to the flat I grew up in is my cats, and so for me home is less of a physical place but more of a concept. I could realistically live anywhere, but what makes a place feel like home to me is being around my friends, because they are actually my chosen family. I find that what tethers me to Manchester, is that it's what I know. I've never really lived anywhere else, and whilst not everyone I know is going to live here forever, or even currently lives here, I find that Manchester as a place is a place where I feel as though I can publically be myself, especially considering how I outwardly present myself. I currently live in student accommodation with one other person, but that doesn't mean I'm away from my friends, because we have online access to each other, compared to where I used to live, which no matter who I was around there was still this underlying feeling of fear, insecurity and lack of safety. If I lost what I currently had, most likely, chances are I would go and live with my parents, which sounds ok, but to stay even short term with them has significant impacts on my health. Whilst I've only been moved out since September, but moving away has allowed for a lot of long-awaited healing to take place for me, so to live back there would not necessarily undo all of it, but it would set it back by miles.
I've chose this picture as for me a home is not just the bricks i live under but its also a safe and warm place for my children that gives them a loving and safe place to be in. i live in a 3 bedroomed council house which we call home, without this i would be at my mum and dads which i would also class as our home as that is my safe place. i live in sale, whoever i do live on a council estate and my dream is to live literally 2 minutes up the road haha! "postcode lottery"

A home is somewhere that I feel safe and secure. My home symbolises to me support and memories. My home is me, my parents, and my brother (my second brother has just moved out), and my dog Dougie, we're a close family and always have each others backs when we need to. It feels like home as its filled with love and everything I need to feel comfortable, most importantly my dog!
I am currently living in an apartment in Manchester, however my family lives in Stoke-on-Trent. Personally I dislike where I am from, as it is relatively small and everyone seems to know everyone. I much prefer living in the city, and plan on continuing to live in Manchester once I finish Uni, as the vibe of the city is more appealing to me.
If my home was taken away from me I would not only be losing materialistic things, I would also lose my idea of home, as I have lived in the same house since I was born. I would be losing memories, emotions and really my entire childhood.
The image I have chosen is a photo of me and my mum, she is what makes home feel like home. She is a real caregiver and has shared our home with many foster children, which is also memories I relate to my home.

Currently i am living in student accommodation and i love living here at the moment as i also live with 11 other flat mates that i have grown really close with, especially because of lockdown and the tight measures that we have been in. I love living here as i am very close to the centre of Manchester which means it is very easy to wall into town which i love as i have always wanted to live in a city! It also means that if you are needing to get out of the house and have a walk; there is plenty of places to go! Before moving into accommodation, i lived in a much smaller city that i found pretty boring as there was not a lot to do there, however moving to Manchester has made me a much happier person as i feel as though it is more suited to me and my interests. However- if this home was to get taken off me i would be extremely devastated as not only would i loose warmth and shelter (and also a lovely home) but i would also not be able to see my flat mates that are becoming like family to me; seen as though we are spending a large amount of time together. If this did occur, i would probably go back and live with my family, or maybe even find some shelter with a close friend. Like i said before, i would be extremely sad to have to leave this flat as i have been very lucky to get such a nice accommodation in the first place that is located so close to uni- which means it is very handy for me location wise! The only negative thing about where i am living would be the traffic as i am located next to a main road so it can be very loud at times with police cars and ambulances etc... but that’s something you slowly get used to . Overall, my home means a lot to me and since staring uni i have made many memories here with my flat mates (seen as though we have not been given the chance to go anywhere very much), so having this taken away from me would really upset me.

The picture shown is my family home. I am staying till February (when lockdown ends). For me home means family and people you care about. It is also somewhere where I can be myself. Home gives me comfort and relaxation. A place to study and relax. Positives: live in a nice area with lots of walking paths and local businesses. Negative: My house is quite old so it needs DIY jobs every so often. I would love to live in a flat in the city after I graduate. I would loose access to food, security, warmth and more importantly I would loose my family. I would feel deeply sad and worried that I lost of my home. I would try to sofa surf for a while until I could find temporary housing or find a solution to my lack of housing.

A home is a safe space in which you should find security and comfort in. To me, it is a place where I can relax and work in. A home gives me sanctuary. I live in Manchester, the positives of living here are the experience it gives me of living in a city and the independence that university life offers me. The negatives are that I don’t live near any family and sometimes get homesick. I would like to live in New York in the future as I really enjoyed the city when I visited. If my home in Manchester got taken away, I would feel scared and vulnerable. I would lose security, and this would worry me and upset me as I'd feel as though I would of lost much of my independence if this meant I had to move back into my family home. Although I would be grateful that I still had a safe space to live in.

My home is also a place of privacy away from all other stresses in my life. If this was taken away I think I’d feel lost with no where warm I could go to comfort myself. My home is also the place that contains all my possessions and favourite things with many happy memories therefore creating stability within my life.

A home the is a place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household. To me my home is a safe place for me and my daughter to make memories together. I am luck enough to live in hale with is a privileged area with decent schools, transports and shops. I have been in a situation with loosing my home due to a domestic violent relationship, which put my in a situation were I couldn't afford my old flat on my own but couldn't stay in the relationship anymore as it wasn't worth it. This made me feel very unsettled and stressed as I had no safe place. However now I am happy and content in a new home and area, and feel lucky.

It is a place filled with my comforts that enables me to relax. It doesn't matter where you live, as long as you are happy and it keeps you safe and warm, that's all that matters. I still live at home with my parents, although I am grateful, sometimes we can step on each others toes. I suppose that's what happens when there is a few living together.

To me a home is somewhere to feel safe and comfortable and to be yourself. It may not even be where you live because unfortunately not all people have a safe and comfortable environment that they live in. For me home means I can relax and have my own space and belongings. The thing that makes it home for me is being able to be myself here and not worry about what other people think or have to face any judgement it’s safe and comforting. I live with my nana in her house close by to friends and family. I would like to live on my own because I feel as though I may feel more comfortable in my own space completely and not have to worry about taking care of someone else’s needs. Although I am happy to care for her it is sometimes difficult which is something I find hard about living where I do. If I could live anywhere it would be in a country area because it would be quiet and peaceful. The positives of where I live are that my best friend lives really close so I always have someone to get help from, there’s also a range of shops and takeaways and pubs which makes things a lot easier as they are all close by if I needed to use them. I also get my own space and privacy here and even though I care for my nana she still supports me in other ways such as financially.

If my home here was taken away I would lose everything from my belongings to my close connections with friends. I would feel extremely stressed in that situation and wouldn’t know what to do or who to seek help from because I understand it is not easy to get support for those issues. I would initially go to the council for support however from past experience I know that there is no simple solution and it’d be very difficult to help me find a home.

Chris Hazell - What does Home mean to me? Home means a place where I can relax, be myself, enjoy a sense of security. Why I chose my living room as my picture is because by showing my books, shows that I can escape into different worlds of my imagination. Where I am, have many advantages, it is close to the city centre but it is very quiet and safe here. On the other hand, it can be isolating and lonely, especially during the present circumstances. If I was to lose my home, I would lose my books and music, and my independence. I would forever be wondering if I can find that sense of security again. I could go to live with my Mum for a while but I would have to sleep on the sofa.

A house is just the building but a home is somewhere you can go to for safety.

What does home mean for me? What makes it a home?

For me my home is made up of family, warmth, shelter, comfort and running water. As well as a place to call a safe heaven and base you can return to with a stable foundation and support.

What does home give me?

Home gives me a chance to relax and feel safe and protected. It also a chance to truly be your self and sense of relief not to be judged.

Where do I live and where would I like to live and why?

I live in a country tourist town in the HighPeak, the population is around 22,500 and the area is usually safe. However, over time more anti social behaviour is on the rise, I believe this is because the area does not have much to offer to youths. The area I live in everyone is very similar to each other and for that reason I would like to live in a different area one day where there is more culture and uniqueness and realistic views on the world.

Positives and negatives about where I live.

A positive is it’s a small area you know a lot of people and a lot of people know you just through families and friends, this means there’s a lot of support in the town.

A negative is the areas of the town are segregated and grouped to social housing and private homes, this makes a very clear divide of the two areas and there is a lot of stigma towards the social are. I believe if the houses were mixed and random through out the town then the fact they are social housing would be less of a matter.

Another negative is over the past year nice crime has risen and this has made many residents feel unsafe about the area.

Imagine this was taken from you.

If I had my home taken from me I would unsafe and self conscious and looked down on by others. I’d feel as though I was in danger because I wouldn’t have the protection of my home and safe heaven. I would also feel uncertain about the future and what would happen to me each day. If I had my home taken from me I would visit my local council and housing authority and be assessed for priority for housing, I may also rely on family and friends for shelter.

Home is warmth, shelter, your own space, a stable and reliable base from which to live your life. It is a place where I can go to escape the world. Where I can hide in bed on a bad day or roll around in my garden on a good one. Where I can return to after a long days work and where my family gathers for visits and special occasions. Family and my own space are what makes it my home. A home gives you a sense of belonging, warmth and a base. My family home is my permanent home where I can always go to. It is a nice big house surrounded by greenery. I would like to get a house in a similar area, it is a far cry from the temporary hostels and council houses I grew up in. The difference in your surroundings can really affect everything in your life and especially your mental health. Where I live now is clean, safe, green, a nice area, the neighbour's are very friendly and the transport links are good. The negatives about where I live are that it is very expensive, not many people including myself (for a long time atleast) would be able to afford a property there which is a shame because it is such a nice area. Something that has always bothered me is that the area my house is in is on a very long road. On the same road there is one of the poorest and most underfunded areas of leeds. On the same road. I have lived in this area previously and it was very detrimental to my mental health. If my family home was taken away I would lose my sense of security and be very stressed and worried as I have elderly parent/step parents with health problems. I would lose my family home and with it my senses of warmth, cohesion, sense of belonging, possessions and it would drastically affect my mental health.

Home for me is a place where I can feel comfortable and safe , as well as feeling at peace and at ease. Home is made for me by my family and by the memories I have made there. My home gives me protection and a sense of unity with my family. I live in a semi detached house in a nice area just outside of the city centre. It is relatively quiet and the access to the city centre is quick and easy. I have quite a few neighbours which I like as it brings a better sense of community, as well as an added sense of security as everyone looks out for eachother. In the future I would like to live in a similar place to where I am living now. If I lost my home I would be losing a lot of memories made with my friends and family which I would find really upsetting. I would lose photograph’s and things given to me by family that have passed on. I would also lose my sense of comfort and security and would feel very vulnerable. In this situation I would try my hardest to ensure that I stick with my family and help look out for my younger sister.

From one point of view its just a building in which we live in however it can be much more than that it could be anywhere you feel comfortable, somewhere you can be yourself. We often hear the phrase ‘home is where the heart is’, this could mean wherever you have fond memories you label as home i.e. if you’ve moved out however you go to visit your parents you may also class this as ‘home’. Home to me is much more than a building. It’s a happy and safe place where I can live. It’s a place where I have all I need, and I am with the people who matter the most to me. It also gives me a sense of safety, security and unity. My family and my pets are what make it a home for me, when I’m round my family and my pets, this is where feel my happiest and most secure. However if I was to look at it at a lot more depth my bedroom is ultimately my safe space, somewhere I can be alone to gather my thoughts. As mentioned previously home gives me a sense of security, safety and unity. If I was to lose my home, I would lose these feelings and I would feel lost, vulnerable and isolated.

A home is persons residence. It is their shelter where they may live with others or on their own. It is their shelter.

Personally a home is where you live, it is somewhere you feel safe and comfortable. Where you are able to be yourself and relax whether it’s with others or individually.

What makes it home to me personally is that it is somewhere I can to relax and enjoy the company of my family. It is where I feel safe and is a place I feel the least amount of stress. I mostly enjoy the daily dynamic with my family.

Home gives me comfort. Makes me more relaxed.

I currently live in Manchester on my own however, I class my family house as my home which is in a greater Manchester village. I also class Zimbabwe as my home. This is where I’d like to live, this is because it is my mums side of the family live and greatly miss them.

Positives of living at home is my family. The time I get to spend with them when I come back from university. The area is a quiet and got lovely places to take walks. Love the the bath tub in the family home, great place to relax. Negatives of living at home is that at times I need time to myself it may get noisy due to my younger siblings.

If the place where I’ve built memories with the family, the place where I can relax and feel safe was taken away I would feel very emotional. This is because I feel as though I would a kind of loss. Would be worried if I could ever get that back. I would also be stressed.

A home is a place where you feel safe and find comfort in. A home means to me that I am in a safe environment and sense of security as I live with my family. It also is a place where I have my own space and can relax. A home gives you space to wind down from the things you have been doing during the day and a place to be yourself. I live in South Manchester with my mum, dad, brother and dog. I would like to still live in Manchester when I decide to move out as it is close to where all my family is. The positives of where I live is that my family all live quite close together so I spend a lot of time with them and have a close relationship. The negatives of where I live is the area is viewed as abit ‘runned down’ so people look down on the area that I live in. If all of it got taken away from me I would lose a place of comfort, being warm and comfortable, also the privileges of having my own bedroom, my own tv, room to store all my clothes and shoes, a place to get ready and do my uni work. If it did happen I would probably end up living at another family members.

I live with my mum, dad and my older brother we are a very close four and it makes me so happy knowing I can confined in them with any of my troubles. I have lived in the same home since I was born so it holds a special place in my heart and a lot of memories for me. I get comfort in knowing that no matter how far I travel there is always a place for me there. My home is not flashy or big or anything of the sort but that isn't what homes are about, a home should be your safe place full of the people and the things you adore, if I was to lose my home I would be losing my childhood and all the memories we have created over the years.

A home for me is my safe place. A place where me and my children can relax, have fun, rest and just enjoy. We have a happy family home and that important to me. We all have a private space we can go off to if we wish. We share and have shared lots of happy memories here. My home gives myself and my children security, shelter, somewhere to eat, sleep, grow, make memories and be a family. I live in a housing association property in Middleton, I’d love to eventually buy a house up near where I grew up, in an area where my mum lives now. Where I live is quiet, fantastic neighbours and I like my house however, I’d like a bigger house and in some parts of this area it is run down.

What is a home?Home is place that a person can go to feel safe, warm and comforted as there in a place that is their own and can feel free into doing what they like to do. Home is also a place to be with others and be surrounding with loved ones and people that you trust and make you happy. what does home mean for you?Home to me is symbolic of family, especially a place that I can be with my mum, pets and siblings, a place I can go to if I just need to relax and escape if I want to as I feel most safe and protected there .What makes it home for you?My home is home for me as I have my dogs there for some reason a house never feels like a home to me if there are no pets there. This is most likely as I have never lived in a place with no animals in my entire life before moving to uni, also having a garden feels like a home to me and I don’t know why. What does home give you? Home gives a sense of security and protection from the outside world as it somewhere that you can retreat and not focus on what is going on outside of that environment to much. I also, feel like in most cases as soon as you get home you feel more relaxed and warmer. Where do you liveI live in between home (Huddersfield) and Uni (Manchester)where would you like to live and why? I’ve always wanted to live in a bigger city like Manchester or Leeds as there not too far away from home, but far enough for me to spread my wings a little bit and begin to start my own life. I also, feel like because I want to be a social worker there is more opportunities to help more people on a bigger scale and high up position in larger cities. What are the positives and maybe negatives about where you live? The positive about the place that I live is that I am surrounded with a lot of my friends that I have grown up with for many years, my family live in the area or close by and that I’m familiar with the area and how to get around which is slight juxtaposition with Manchester as I am new to area and don’t have the solid relationships and familiarity I have at home. The negatives are that I have lived there my relatively my whole life so staying in the same place is boring and not motivating for me to truly get to places I want to be, and although Huddersfield is a nice place to live crime is on the increase and the city centre is starting to become rundown. •Now imagine that this is taken away from you....what would you lose? These could be material things, or they could be things like security or warmth or shelter...how might you feel?If I was to lose my home I would be without my sense of security and protection that comes along with having a home, it would become harder to see my friends and family which would isolate me as I would most likely have to relocate and be far away from them and if the reason I have lost my house is because I am homeless I will most likely lose my dogs. Losing all of this would have be extremely traumatic for me and would probably lead to me becoming deeply depressed unmotivated and probably not wanting to go on if the losing of my home was a long-term problem that I was forced to deal with.
