Metals are something everyone knows. Or, at least SHOULD know. They're hard and they're cold. Perfect for building outlines and building or helping with building most of the modern world we live in today!

Characteristics:

They have a high luster. This means they are SUPER shiny. Great for glamour, or gold is at least.

Most metals are ductile, meaning they can be drawn into super thin wires. Good for power chords since metals are best for transferring heat and electricity.

Most metals are conductors which means they are like I said above, good for transferring electricity and heat. Have you ever wonder why wires are made of copper wired? Well, that's why.

Most metals are malleable, which means they can be smashed and flattened by a hammer all it wants and can still be intact, just flat.

Nonmetals are pretty much the opposite of metals.

Characteristics:

Most nonmetals are very brittle. This means that they are very weak and can break easily when smashed or dropped.

Most nonmetals are dull. This is how much mass is in a specific nonmetal like a bowling ball.

Most nonmetals are conductors. You know how there is rubber or something over the wires? This is because they insulate the electricity and heat running through it so that it doesn't hurt when we touch it.

Metalloids are elements that have characteristics of both Nonmetals and Metals. They can be good conductors and bad conductors. They can be brittle, or strong. They can be lustrous, or not lustrous.

Chracactierstics:

Most metalloids are semiconductors. This makes these good conductors for computers so that the circuit isn't always running and exploding inside the computer.

Nickel is classified as a metal because it can be lustrous and it's malleable. They're useful for people because Nickel is inside a lot of the things we use. It's also made to make the Nickel. The 5 cent coin.

It is useful to people because it can make a coin.
