For handling, I assessed the temperament of the bearded dragon. Bearded dragons are typically known for there calm and docile temperaments/behaviours. I monitored for any signs of distress such as excessive movement, head bobbing and a dark beard. Due to the bearded dragon being calm and docile, I decided to approach her with a loose grip. Her chest was supported by my hand, my fingers were in a 'V' shape on either side of her neck with her back and tail supported I then further looked and everything looked okay, no signs of stress or harm.

when handling you need focus on building a positive relationship with your animal, use gentle consistent handling techniques to make them feel comfortable and secure, this could be including treats, praiseing and calm body language. for obedience you need to teach basic commands such as sit, stay and come. use positive reinforcement methods, rewarding your animal for the commands, consistenty is key so practice commands regularly. for specific objectives you need to identify clear goals first your training, for example i was training winnie thecommands regularly. for specific objectives you need to identify clear goals first your training, for example i was training winnie the goat and a specific objective could be to have her respond to the stay command 70% of the time within a month. I would break down the objective into smaller steps and track the progress to ensure i'm on the right path and i can make sure winnie isn't stressed.

I used a holding box to help move her from her enclosure to the desk to ensure she could not escape while I was transferring her. While restraining and handling the bearded dragon, I decided to use a towel to provide the bearded dragon with something to grip on to something when they are on the table so that they don't slip and injure themselves. We also used the towel as it allowed us to use a different method of restraint called the burrito method - this is when we drape the towel over the bearded dragons back, we typically use this method when an animal is more wriggly because it provides more support and can often reduce stress and anxiety in the animal which means that they relax and become less fidgety.

unit 213-1.4- monitor the mental condition and physical behaviour of the animal throughout the training and use the results to modify the training programme.

It's important to monitor the animals mental and physical state during training and adjust the programme accordingly to ensure the animals well being. This incudes observing their behaviour, mood and any signs or stress or discomfort. If the animal is showing the signs then a different method needs to be used and then the new method needs to be monitored aswell to make sure it is safe and appropriate for the animal. This could involve reducing the intensity of the task, the duration, or type of training exercise or providing additional breaks. By continuously monitoring and adaptating thetraining programme, we can ensure the animals well-being is prioritised and that the training process is both effective and ethical. Winnie would not respond to the clicker so we used a different method such as hand commands and vocal commands which worked better.

You handle the animals gently and with care to make them feel safe and keep them from harm. You should always treat the animal with kindness and avoid harsh or forceful methods and always support all limbs. use positive reinforcement when handling the animals e.g. praising and giving treats. provide breaks in between handling to prevent stress and you should always recognise when the animal is becoming stressed. always make sure to ask a qualified trainer or veterinarian if you are unsure. I also handled winnie to move her to the correct area to train her. i used this method as it is good for her healthand welfare. This is because it doesn't injure her and we have full control over her.

I wrote a training plan to keep clear and accurate communication in training. Regular progress reporting is crucial as it allows managers, trainers and learners themselves to know about any changes in training. By providing regular, accurate reports it allows there to be a clear, consistent and safe plan while training animals.
