Why is diversity and inclusion in the arts so important?

It's important to value our differences. Creatives have long recognized the importance of diversity and inclusion in the world of art. One of the most important ingredients of innovative thinking is diversity. Teams with a fairly heterogeneous combination of sex, gender identity, history, and educational background appear to achieve better results. Inclusion Arts is a vital area of artistic practice because it can help people with learning disabilities realize their creative potential while also facilitating communication and self-advocacy.

Connections between the elements and principles

To start off what are the elements of art? They are Line, Shape, Colour, Value, Form, Texture and finally Space. The weight of elements on a design is measured using this design theory. The symmetrical or asymmetrical positioning of shapes may help to achieve balance. Balance, harmony, unity, rhythm, proportion, variety, focus, and movement can all be achieved by arranging the elements in a work. As a result, art principles are influenced by the elements so having no elements makes no principles.

My group and I wanted to do a short movie along with the topic of something getting bullied and someone took all their happiness from them and made them sad but then something else comes along and gives it hope, joy, happiness. We decided to make a ball out of clay that would represent the thing that got bullied, another ball then comes along and takes clay from the ball making it smaller and smaller until the ball was so small it had no more hope and joy in it. Shortly after a pink ball comes and gives its clay to the small ball to give it happiness, so it wasn't as small, it could fit in. My group realized we all didn't have clay and so we had to improvise and do different parts, Kiera made the first part of the video then dropped off the clay at Zoe's house so she could finish making the video. When they both did their parts I edited the videos together and added the background music we chose for the video. We had some challenges but we made it work, I think this was a very fun assignment to do, and it brings out a great meaning to it. I feel we did a great job and had fun with it. Creating the video definitely made this project better because you could visualize what we were talking about rather than just trying to imagine it also it is very creative and fun to watch.

(The movie couldn't download because it is too big)

This semester has been going pretty quick and I have learnt so much more than I thought I would. One thing that was brand new to me was learning about all the elements and principles. My favourite assignment so far was our stop motion movie. My goals for the rest of this course are to keep up with all my work and work hard so I can end off school on a good note.

Design thinking

I think design thinking is a great way of designing things and getting ideas of what to design/make. The five-phase model is very helpful (Empathise, define, ideate, prototype and test.) It lets you talk to your teammates/people who you are working with about what you want to do then talk about some issues you might have along the way, challenging assumptions and creating ideas for innovative solutions, start creating solutions and then testing your ideas. This way you know what you're doing and in case something doesn't go as planned you have solutions on what to do and how to make your designs/creations better and better. I most definitely think this is a concept that I will use in school and beyond. I want to be an architect or interior designer something along those lines and I can see myself using the five-phase technique because when you are building/designing houses almost every time something doesn't go the way you planned it to because of how complicated it is, so you need other plans just in case a wall cant be placed in the spot you want it to be or a pipe is in the way of putting a light where you want it to go. So yes I will use it in school and beyond for sure.

The Secret Path

I think this work was effective. The graphics are very well put together and are creative, for example when his hoodie string turned into the railway it was very clever and I was not expecting it. I feel if I had just watched the video I would not have understood it much but the music really helps you get a better visual in your head of what they were trying to show us in the video. The music definitely added impact to the illustrations. The piece did educate and inform me, I am a visual learner so when I am reading about things my mind wanders off and I don’t really understand what I’m reading so seeing it in a video with lyrics that describe the video made it better for me to learn about the situation and I could understand what they were trying to teach me in the work. In my opinion yes the piece effectively pays tribute to Chanie and the other children who lost their lives, as well as those families who have been scarred by their experiences with Residential Schools. It did a great job sending the message they wanted it to send.
Each song had a different vibe according to the lyrics and illustrations that fit well together. If it was more intense lyrics the music would be deeper and louder I found but when the lyrics were calmer so was the tone of the music.
My overall opinion on this piece would be that it is great, the meaning, graphics. Illustrations, music, it all fits well together. The only thing I would change about it is to add more information to the lyrics, it got repetitive with the lyrics and it was a pretty long video so if they added more information you would be able to learn more about it rather than hearing the same thing over and over again. Besides that, it is teaching us about something we all should learn in a video with music which in my opinion is more fun than reading a book about it. The black and white effect also made it bring out the sadness in the story, and everything was really well-drawn and had lots of detail. It was an overall good piece.
