The Direct cause of the French And Indian War from the British point of view was that the war was caused by the French because they provoked the natives by building a chain of forts by the Ohio River. From the Frenchs point of view was the reason they built the forts was because they wanted to stop westward growth so they could work on Fort Duguesne and win control of the Ohio River.

Anna & Allie

The Albany Plan of Union was a plan initially meant to develop a system for recruiting troops for colonial defense by using money from several colonies, from taxation.Due to the fact that colonists were uncooperative with each other because of jealousy the plan never took full effect.Although the plan never took effect it’s still significant because it set a blueprint for later, more revolutionary congresses.

Jalyn and Kennedy

In 1755, General Braddock led 1500 British regulars and Virginia militiamen out of Fort Cumberland to West Maryland. The French and Indians attacked from the woods, striking panic on the British troops. There were 450 British killed and 500 wounded, including General Braddock, who died from the fatal wounds. From these defeats of the British army, the colonists realized that the British army is not invincible and gave them courage to seek independence. Alyssa and Adrianna

The British began to focus on taking Canadian territory. They did this by retaking Louisbourg, and taking Quebec and Montreal. Along with this they signed a peace treaty that furthered their control of North America, and the French no longer had power. Through the peace treaty Great Britain got French Canada and Spanish Florida, and France gave Spain their western territory, some of the Mississippi River claims, and Louisiana.

-Chris, Evan, Callan

Previously, Britain had exercised little direct control over the colonies and had generally allowed its

Navigation Laws regulating colonial trade to go unenforced. This earlier policy of salutary neglect was now abandoned as the British saw a need to adopt more forceful policies for taking control of their expanded North American dominions. The wars had been extremely costly. King George III and the dominant political party in Parliament (the Whigs) pursued a colonial policy aimed at solving Britain’s domestic financial problems. Making the American colonies bear more of the cost of maintaining the British empire would lead to increased colonial taxes which were not well-received in the colonies.

General Braddock fatally wounded in battle

Post war the British’s opinions of the colonial war were very low. They believe that the Americans were poorly trained and very disordered. They also believed that the colonist lacked personnel, and physical support to obtain the new land that Britain had gained. They couldn’t defend the frontiers. In return the colonies reconstructed and opposed the British opinion by developing confidence for their own defense. They returned saying that the British troops lacked leadership.
