Sicily
Sicily is a large island off the coast of Italy and North Africa. Sicily was an important island during the Punic wars which was between Rome and Carthage. These nations wanted Sicily because it was strategically placed in the Mediterranean Sea and allowed for military installations, while allowing the flow of goods out of the nation. This Island helped control the surrounding waters.
