  • I met with each of teacher separately today which was great for planning out your stations and modeled TPACK Lessons.  
  • Christina Strickland - We co-taught a TPACK lesson using the SOS strategy Paper Slides to learn how to add fractions with like denominators - Quote from Ms. Strickland "I can't believe how the much the students were engaged and I would definitely use this strategy again to help students retell a concept.  The video is an example of how to do the paper slides that we used for the class.

  • I was hoping to see stations in action but as I stated on another board - we get the momentum going during my coaching and then it stops once I leave.  I will need to figure out how to change this.  Therefore our session was more planning and less of stations in action.

  • Met with each of teacher individually to continue planning stations.
  • Next visit is Dec 7th - the day after our large group session.  The current plan is for me to help facilitate stations in your classrooms.

    Klessens:  Reading stations - students did their regular morning stations - I will send you ideas for SOS strategies for several of the stations - hope to do tomorrow.  Happy to see that you remembered to use me as a resource for ideas - one of the many reasons I am here :)

    Schultz- Katherine introduced subtraction 4 using stations - students enjoyed working through the stations.

    Pitts - Students took a math Kahoot quiz for review - good activity when students are so excited for field day.

    Strickland - Wow what a lesson!  I wish I would have video taped Christina today - she took her Essential question and had a I can statement for the students - students were very clear on what they were to know from the lesson.  She then had 3 tasks (stations) for groups of students to work through to understand "how the earths axis and rotation around the sun causes the seasons".  This was new information and the students led their own learning - they first watched a short video and using the "Making it Concrete" strategy.  Then they had to look at 4 pics on a board that describe the 4 seasons and complete a diagram - once finished they had to check in with Christina and she did a short informal assessment to make sure they had the chart correctly and could explain each image and the season.  I did not see the last task due to the fire drill but I have no doubt every student left her room today understanding how we get our seasons.  What a fantastic and engaging lesson - would have been a great learning lab!

I made the board using board builder from the Discovery Education site. My two "I Can" statements are I can determine the amount of coins and dollars greater than $1.00 and I can solve real world problems involving money using the four operations.
    To start the lesson, I will have the students watch a short video on adding and subtracting decimals and I will write a decimal problem on the board horizontally. The students will have to write the problem vertically, practicing lining up the decimals, and then they will have a Snowball fight. (SOS Strategy) The students will solve the problem on the snowball they end up with. I will collect these and review while students are working in stations.

The students will practice lining up decimals and using the four mathematical operations to come up with and ending total.

To begin the lesson, I have displayed the words Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle around the room. I will show different photos of items and have the students choose what category it should go. The students will move to the answer that they think is correct. This will serve as an informal assessment of their prior knowledge. At the end of the unit, we will do this activity again and see if their answers change based on what they have learned.
    I created a board on Board Builder for the students to use to guide them through the lessons. They will work with partners to complete the activities. Our "I Can" statement is "I can identify ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle to save our natural resources. The students will document their findings in their Science workbook or graphic organizers. The board includes video clips, a flip chart, and activities for the students to participate in. This will take several days to complete. To begin this lesson, I have taped pictures of different animals around the room. I "received a letter on my door" that told students these animals are on the loose! Our job is to figure out which habitat they belong in based on their needs and characteristics. As a class, they are going to decide where each animal goes. This will serve as an informal pre-assessment to see what they know. At the end of the unit, they will be able to change their answers based on what they've learned.

    After that, students will break off into partners to complete a Discovery Education Board. I created this Board using Board Builder. Our "I Can" statement is "I can classify animals." When they are in partners, they will be exploring each classification of animal through the use of the DE Board. They will each have a sheet that they will have to fill out while they are going through the board. The board includes video clips, pictures, interactive games, and songs.
