Jordan Johnson. It was about a guy named Solomon Perel who hid from the Nazis among the Nazis. He moved to Poland where he and his family thought they be safe, but the Nazis came. They then moved to Russia, they invaded Russia to. He was caught, so instead of dying he lied and said he was German. It was a long shot, but they believed him. He was then taken and put in the Hitler Youth group. He survived the whole war under a false life. I love the book and its a must read!

Samuel Morris 2nd Period 10.17.16

Title: (The complete) Maus
Author: Art Spiegelman
Number of pages: 296

Brief Summary: Art Spiegelman's Maus is a graphic novel recalling his father's life during the rise of the reich as well as the atrocities he bore witness to in the camps. Spiegelman also includes the chronology of his own experience as "My father bleeds history".

Favorite things about the book: My favorite thing about Maus, first and foremost, is it's depiction of the holocaust as a twisted game of cat and 'maus'. Furthermore, I enjoyed the inclusion of German dialogue/dialect as well as marked maps to support the plot's factual nature.

What I learned about the holocaust: While reading Maus the most prominent bit of new information I gained was that as the reich was toppled, the nazis found themselves in panics to clean out the remaining camps, doing so in a futile attempt to cover up what they were doing.

Personal recommendation: Given this book's coupling of educational and entertainment value, as well as depiction as a twisted game of cat and maus. I would recommend this book to any and everyone looking for a unique account of the holocaust.

Author: Allan Zullo and Mara Bovsun
By: Kaytlyn Winburn

Summary: The book tells the stories of how 9 different children in the Holocaust survived. Each child has a different experience and had major challenge to face, but none of them lost hope. One specific story is about a boy named Mathei Jackel, a 10 year old Jewish boy from Romania, who is captured by Nazis and sent on his way to a death camp. Mathei escapes the truck on the way there and runs into the woods. He is found by a man and a Partisan comes to take him under his wing. The boy is faced with challenges that no 10 year old should have to think about.

I liked how easy it was to stay engaged due to the change in stories.

I learned that a Partisan was part of a group that killed Nazis and their supporters that lived in the forests.

Recommendation: I recommend this book to anybody who likes books that share multiple stories with nail-biting adventures.

Jewish partisans. Image. Britannica School, Encyclopædia Britannica, 19 Sep. 2016. http://media1.school.eb.com/eb-media/88/178888-050-0733C9C5.jpg.

In this thrilling memoir, five women tell their stories before Hitler's regimen. In one story, the author, Isabelle Choko-Sztrauch-Galewska, describes how her parents put a lot of emphasis on education since Jewish citizens at that time rarely got accepted into Universities. She described how her father and especially her mother made an effort to make the author as cultured as possible, she learned how to play the piano at a young age and had difficulties with her french lessons. The author also stresses how she didn't realize the differences between Jewish people and non-Jewish People until Hitler's Regimen, she discussed how his dictatorship got in the way of her reaching her dream career and finally accomplishing what her mother worked for.

Recommendation: I would recommend this book to whoever enjoys reading about women's survival during war times, I really like this book because it doesn't only take into account the fact that she's a Jewish survivor but also a woman. The author puts a lot of emphasis on motherhood and sisterhood, she puts a lot of focus on education for women. In a way, the memoir touches on a lot more than the Holocaust.

By Jency Trejo
Sources:
-akg-images / Universal Images Group
Rights Managed / For Educational Use Only
-Universal History Archive/Universal Images Group
Rights Managed / For Educational Use Only
-akg-images / Universal Images Group
Rights Managed / For Educational Use Only
-Fred Ramage / Hulton Archive / Getty Images / Universal Images Group
Rights Managed / For Education Use Only
-akg-images / Universal Images Group
Rights Managed / For Education Use Only dFragment--> (^
-Photo12 \ Universal Images Group
Rights Managed / For Educational Use Only

-

Jency Trejo

Morgan O'Bryan

Survival In Auschwitz by Primo Levi
Summary:

In my story "Survival in Auschwitz" by Primo Levi, it tells the true story of the authors struggles during the WWII times, telling the events of his capture and times in the highest kill rate concentration camp, Auschwitz. On the 13th of December in 1943, Primo Levi, a man who was a chemist and identified as an Italian citizen of the Jewish race, was captured in his hiding, along with his group, and was sent to the awful conditions of the camps. In the beginning, Levi was captured by Militia companies in the middle of the night and taken for interrogation as a "suspect" of being a Jew. He admitted to being a Jew and was taken to a detention camp for further actions. He went through many things, ending up in Auschwitz. Then, throughout the story it tells what happened to him, others, and what the Nazis who ran the camp did. He also tells the stories of his duties in the camp and how he worked a lot with others in the camp. While in the camp he and others create a group, helping each other out throughout the times in the concentration camp. In the end, Nazis abandoned the camp, Soviets taking the healthy ones and leaving the rest. Is he one of them?

I would recommend this book to those of whom are curious as to how life was like from the prisoners perspective during the times of the Holocaust. It was a good book and I enjoyed it.

Video Sources:
1. Keystone/ Hulton Archive / Getty Images / Universal Images Group

2. akg-images / Universal Images Group

3.

By: James M. Deam
Cade Anderson

This story is a composition of multiple voices of Holocaust survivors, and an informative source that gives the reader a good amount of information about the construction of Death Camps. It provides floor plans, maps, and detailed descriptions of the rooms inside of the Death Camps. The author provides primary sources like letters sent back and forth and firsthand accounts of various events. The author does a superb job of getting the reader to put themselves in the shoes of the prisoners, and it makes this book have a good pathos appeal. A brief history of the construction of the Death Camps are detailed. The author also provides pictures of people before and after the effects of the camps.

I really liked this book because it kept my attention; The majority of the history books just throw a large amount of information at you, while this book kept it simple and short while giving the reader the information that they needed.

akg-images / Universal Images Group

Rights Managed / For Education Use Only

Image 2

akg-images / Universal Images Group

Rights Managed / For Educational Use Only

Image 3

akg-images / Universal Images Group

Rights Managed / For Educational Use Only

Image 4

akg-images / Universal Images Group

Rights Managed / For Education Use Only

Image 5

akg-images / Universal Images Group

Rights Managed / For Education Use Only

Image 6

akg-images / Universal Images Group

Rights Managed / For Education Use Only

Image 7

akg-images / Universal Images Group

Rights Managed / For Education Use Only

Image 8

akg-images / Universal Images Group

Rights Managed / For Education Use Only

Image 9

akg-images / Universal Images Group

Rights Managed / For Education Use Only

Image 10

akg-images / Universal Images Group

Rights Managed / For Education Use Only

His mother and father owned a hotel in Czechoslovakia. They were Jewish and had German and Poland blood. There, a fortune teller told his mother that his son was a "lucky child," and that he will be okay in the future. The family went had to move multiple times together, as well as change camps and was separated from his mother. In Auschwitz, he was part of the death march. He has to fake his death to survive because he was suppose to go to the gas chambers many times. He is brave and works very hard.

I would recommend this book to anyone is interested in books about surviving stories in the holocaust. Their stories explore the mystery about what happened behind those fences in the concentration camps. Both stories suffer loss and struggle but they both lived to tell their story.

Author: Imgard A. Hunt
By: Deja Miller
Summary: This book is about a young girl that grew up as a Nazis. She spent the first 11 years of her childhood living under Hitler's rule. She basically writes a memoir on her experiences growing up as a German Nazis and being subjected to ideas and beliefs she would not have agreed to if she knew what they truly meant. As she grew older she eventually faces the harsh reality of what a true Nazi meant.
Recommendation: I would recommend this book. It is very interesting to read from a German Nazi point of view and shows that not all Nazis where just evil people, some were simply born into it.

Image citations:
1. https://s3.amazonaws.com/s3-p.animoto.com/Image/l68d7WAhPH8Ce8n48B04YQ/l.jpg

2. https://s3.amazonaws.com/s3-p.animoto.com/Image/rDRgWfjb5N0c58OTDgFUsQ/l.jpg
3.

https://s3.amazonaws.com/s3-p.animoto.com/Image/W1IUqRzQaobOp04yLKHVcQ/l.jpg
4.
https://s3.amazonaws.com/s3-p.animoto.com/Image/tCElhg4lita58d6djsD2jA/l.jpg
5.
https://s3.amazonaws.com/s3-p.animoto.com/Image/419SvkwUwQUySLsBucQF0w/l.jpg
6.
https://s3.amazonaws.com/s3-p.animoto.com/Image/J3rmRXUHPoalFzF5pIvOnA/l.jpg
7.
https://s3.amazonaws.com/s3-p.animoto.com/Image/eG1sWDj0m6JNwZ52TEFKUw/l.jpg

By Markus Zusak
Summary: The book thief is the tale of a small girl named Liesel growing up in a small town of Germany during the duration of Hitler's rule. It tells of how she has been put up for adoption, because her birth mother could not handle the expenses of a child. From there, Liesel comes to live with the Hubermann's who have three boys of their own. There she endures verbal abuse and physical abuse from her "new mother", but all with good intent, Liesel then finds comfort in her "new father" and the books she receives/steals. The book is separated between ten parts, all involving at least one book that Liesel possessed, that in some way or another, changed her; the book is also told in 3rd person omniscient, by Death himself.

https://animoto.com/play/PKIIt3Z5LgVjyeZt6vlmiA

Sophia Sulzer
