They don't stay current to the extent we do. Generally countries who don't have the same media as us are developing countries or their governments restrict them from knowing certain current events that keep them current in the world.

Folk houses exist because of the resources that are available in certain areas. Log cabins can be common in an area because they require a little amount of materials to build and they last a long time. Also with tepees, they were easy to move and they could be easily rebuilt.

I think after time pop culture eventually becomes folk culture. If they had the concept of pop culture and folk culture during the time of what we call folk culture, it would probably be considered pop culture. So I would say yes.
