Function: 
We use the present tense:
1. For repeated or regular actions in the present time period.
  • I go to work by car.
  • The train to Perlis leaves every hour.
  • Mira sleeps eight hours every night during the week.

2. For facts.

  • A cat has four legs.
  • We come from Malaysia.

3. For habits.

  • I get up at six O’ clock every day.
  • Mira brushes her teeth thrice a day.
  • We travel to Sabah every year.

4. For things that are always / generally true.

  • Muslims pray five times a day.
  • A doctor works in a hospital.


Form: I/We/you/they - Do / Don't/ Are (Plural) - auxiliary verb
They always go together
They like to watch TV
They watch TV together
He/she/it - Does / Doesn't (does not) / Is (Singular)

She swims/ he reads/ Mira sings
I/we/you/they : swim/read/sing

Affirmative/answer/positive: Yes, I like to sing.
Question: Do you like to sing?
Negative: No, I don't like to sing.

Question: Does she work?
Positive: Yes, she works.
Negative: No, she doesn't work.

Concrete nouns name people, places or things that you can touch, see, hear, smell, or taste.

Abstract nouns name ideas, concepts, or emotions.  These nouns are intangible, which means you cannot touch, see, hear, smell, or taste them using your five senses.

Idea - love, intelligence, justice, religion, time
Emotion - happiness, anger, excitement, fear, surprise

Common nouns are the words that refer to most general things: country, evening, laughter, puppy, umbrella

  • Cathy loves the weekends in the country.
  • We enjoy swimming after breakfast.
  • The cup fell and broke.

Proper nouns are the name that identifies someone or something, a person or a place. Proper nouns are capitalised. John is a proper noun, since the word John represents a particular, single example of a thing, John.

Proper noun examples: Mary, Jimmy, Aunt Mona, Honda, Penang

  • Dhia loved spending time with her Aunt Liza in KL.
  • Buick and Jeep are two important carmakers.
  • We visited Rajang River, which separates the Sarawak and Indonesia.

Hi Dina,

How are you doing? I hope you're fine. It is great to hear that you get an offer to join the school Girls Guides. It is normal to be scared but do not worry because I was in the club too and I will share you some tips on how to be a great team player. When I joined that school, I met new friends from various races.

These are some of the tips that I can give you. First, you have to improve your mental health and develop self-discipline. Then, learn useful skills and perform foot drills. Finally, you have to keep fit, healthy and raise self-confidence.
 
When you join in, you have to learn survival skills and take part in camping activities in order for you to get extra points. Additionally, you have to strengthen love for country and take part in National Day Parades. I hope you will accept these ideas and I look forward to hearing from you again.
