Amado V. Hernandez was a writer and a labor leader. He was also known as someone who criticizes the social injustices in the Philippines. He was part of a communist movement and later on was imprisoned for it. My symbol represents his fights for the social injustices that was mentioned. The "Watawat" title and the gray border represents the news outlet he first worked with when he started writing. Being a labor leader, the people in the front of the symbol I made represents the laborers and people he led during those times. The wings at the back of the people and the hand represents the novel he wrote, "Mga Ibong Mandaragit", in this novel he narrated his yearning for change and the elevation of status of Philippine society and living conditions of Filipinos, which again are the red colored people at the front. Lastly, the hand holding a pen represents Amado Hernandez himself. It reflects how his writings helped uplift and educate the Filipinos about the class struggle and injustices during his time, and up until today. As you can see, there's a drip of blood at the tip of the pen, this represents that his sufferings during the time of his imprisonment had been the ink of his knowledge that he shares with us now.
