Despite sharing similar professional core values of altruism, dignity, justice, and patient autonomy (American Occupational Therapy Association, 1993; Fahrenwald et al., 2005), many occupational therapy practitioners observe a lack of knowledge of their role and scope from their nursing colleagues (Atwal, 2002).    
Role confusion among interprofessional team members results in insufficient interprofessional collaboration and respect, leading to increased frustration and miscommunication. This ultimately compromises patient safety and results in decreased quality of healthcare outcomes (Reeves et al., 2017).
