In Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli I rate this book a 10 because of the characters' roles and how they take a part of this book. I loved how Misha was determined to go to the trains even though he knew that the Nazis would take them to the ovens. I wish Misha later found Janina but I also enjoyed how Misha decided to call his daughter Wendy Janina. From the beginning of the book to the end coming up with new problems and solutions trying to find a way out of trouble every step they take and finding out new things out like the hole in the brick wall where they were able to cross towns without anyone knowing. Mysterious in a kind of way since they had to be sneaky and quiet and stay away from the Jackboots. This was one of my favorite books that I have read. There was not one part of the book where I was bored, especially the end. How everything added up and became more serious for everyone. Uri knew that the Jackboots were going to kill him so it's good that he shot him in the ear not to kill him but to send him to concentration camp so he wouldn’t die. With all of the challenging stuff they were going through a great story.

Zachary Valliath

Recently, I read Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli. This book is a great first-person story that takes place in Warsaw, Poland at the time of WWII. The main character doesn’t know who his parents are or how he even ended up here. He doesn’t know his name, who he is, if he’s Jewish or not. He thinks his name is Stoptheif because that’s what someone yelled at him when he was stealing. However, throughout the book, he slowly finds family and what it means to be a person. He has to find ways to survive on his own, but he eventually finds light and the end of the journey. I would give this book an 8/10 rating as it is an amazing story about an important topic.

Ryan Corsaro

In the book MIlkweed by Jerry Spinelli he teaches the readers about Warsaw Poland during WWII. This book was told through a 1st person pov from a young boy who has a hard life. This boy doesn't even know his own name or his parents. He doesn't know if he is Jewish or anything about himself. One time he was stealing from a store to get food and someone yelled out “Stop thief” and he thought that was his name. Stothief has a really hard time throughout the book with him not having a house, any parents or anything he has to be creative to stay alive. I enjoyed the book and the topic it was written on but I think Jerry Spinelli could have written it better. I think that if he wrote this book with different pov’s to add to the book and the reading experience. Overall I liked the book so I would give it a 7/10 for a rating.

Max Bresler

In Milkweed by Jerry Spinell we learned about Poland during WWII. I rate the book an 8 out of a 10 on a 0 to 10 scale. In the book we learned that Misha doesn't have any parents or name. Earlier in the book someone called out “Stoptheif” while he was trying to steal a loaf of bread. He thought it was his name. For a while he stuck with the name “Stoptheif” but then changed it to Misha. Misha had a very hard life, he had to steal bread in order to be able to eat. He saw dead bodies covered in newspaper on the street. And he witnessed the brutal treatment of jews.
