Not really the school -> college -> work -> die system, but social systems that are based on things like hustle and productivity. Sure, getting a bunch done is great and is revered like oh that person must be great because they accomplished this this and that, but those accomplishments that many pursue are suggested by social norms/expectations. Which is a more popular achievement....1600 on the SAT or being super great at drawing? For example, drug addicts tend to be thrown into prison rather than rehab, forcing them to undergo a brutal withdrawal while doing absolutely nothing to help them with their addiction. Ex-convicts also receive little support and rehab, and are generally shunned from every day life and are unable to do anything about it.
