Alternative Sources of Energy

Alternative energy also known as renewable energy is the energy that is considered an alternative to fossil fuels. More and more, people are demanding cleaner, more sustainable energy, from air to water, to electricity. A77 percent of Americans believe that developing “alternative energy” is a more important priority right now than producing more fossil fuels. There seem to be many benefits to alternative energy; like generating energy that produces no greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels and reduces air pollutions. Diversifying energy supply reduces dependence on imported fuels with. Renewable energy has a numerous health and environmental benefits, storage capabilities, saves money, and maintenance requirements are lower. Usually with good always comes bad. Some disadvantages of using renewable energy are a higher up front cost. Storage capabilities, batteries can only hold so much power for only a certain length of time. Solar panels do not produce electricity during the night and low amounts of electricity during cloudy and rainy days. Wind turbines produce clean electricity during the day and also during the night, but only if there is wind. Renewable energy is produced in small scale compared with the global demand of energy, and to increase the generation capacity in the world up to a level which would count in the global energy mix. But also, the lives, towns, families, land, and animal’s renewable energy has an effect on. Not only how it affects us in the United States, but around the world in the wet lands, to the deserts.

To minimize negative environmental impact, we need to educate towns, employees, industries, etc. We can start be learning about using less energy to get the same job done. We can learn to avoid single use items, plastic water bottles. Choose organic, from clothes to foods. Go paper-less , recycle and use recycled products. Take re-usable bags to the grocery store; make your own household cleaners, Teach our kids to be proud of all they do… no matter what the reaction is from others. I once heard this African Proverb: “If you think you’re too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a room with a mosquito.”

Reference: Holmes, Frank; Forbes – February 21, 2020

The benefits of using alternative sources of energy is the positive impact it has on the environment. Less pollution and strain on resources. Another benefit to using alternative energy would be the good public imagine you gain from doing so as demand from the public to use sustainable energy sources has become so high. One of the downsides would be the expense. Sustainable options tend to cost more in development and save money in the long run.

I think we are already doing things to minimize the negative environment impact. Companies are working on developing ways to use more environmentally friendly sources and scientist are working on developing products that will also help. In all honesty I believe that new technologies will come along as they always do. I do not think more regulations are needed, I find it interesting that the people who lecture everyone Americans to be more mindful of their “footprints” are the same people heating and cooling giant houses all over the world even when no one is living there and flying around in private jets but our average houses being kept at 70 are the problem and our small cars going to work every day are the problem. If anything needs to change it’s the industrial sector and the top 1%.

Alternative sources of energy have decreased the carbon footprint of countries. There are many different sources. Wind power could meet up to 20% of the nation's energy needs. However, with the high costs for the turbines and limitations of the power grid, wind power has slowed. It has great opportunities for companies. Geothermal power is offering a constant source of heat and omits fewer carbon emissions. However, it is expensive and drilling sites needed for it are not available at this time. Solar power is another form of alternative energy source. This provides electricity through solar plants. This is another one that is expensive and inefficient as fossil fuels. This would be good for places in the southwest with a lot of sun. UV rays also generate through cloudy days. Nuclear power is good but has many downsides. It can have meltdowns and radioactive waste. It gives off radiation which is a safety concern. It could cause deaths, sickness, and birth defects. I think to minimize negative environmental impacts people should be more aware of the affects.

I think more people should walk or ride bikes when available to limit the pollution. People should also recycle more and use products that are recyclable. More than 50% of products are packed in recycled paperboard. We also need to reduce water use and wasting the water when using.

Ferrell, O.C, Fraedrich, J, Ferrell, L (2017, 2015). Business ethics: Ethical decision making and cases (12th edition).

Renewable energy comes from a source that will not deplete. Two common examples of this type of energy are solar power and wind power. Geothermal power, hydropower, biomass, and tidal power are additional forms of renewable energy that produce power for our planet right now.

The primary advantage of renewable energy is that fewer potentially harmful emissions are released into the atmosphere. Although fossil fuels are used to create the products that allow for this power to be produced, most forms of renewable energy can become carbon neutral in 5 years or less.

The disadvantage of renewable energy is that it can be costly. Although wind power and solar power have become cost-competitive with coal-fired power and nuclear power in some communities, some forms are not cost-competitive globally yet when the cost per kilowatt hour is compared.

I feel that more people should plant trees, recycle, buy local produce, and keep your tires inflated to the proper psi. Of course there are many other things that can be done but I feel that these are the easiest things that can be done.

O.C. Ferrel, J. F.

Some benefits of using alternative energy would be the reduction of pollution and greenhouse emissions. The downsides would be the higher cost to set this up, and we may not be able to offer this in all areas.
To minimize negative environmental impact, I think we should all be educated on the effects of our actions. We all need to reduce energy consumption, recycle, plant more trees, etc. These are all easy starting points that can drastically help the state of our planet improve.

There are many benefits of renewable energy, mostly on the basis of it never being something that runs out. It is also clean energy, something that does not produce harmful gasses or other types of byproducts that could be long lasting. On the facefront it seems very obvious that we should be using renewable energy and there are plenty of people who have made this argument through years and years of research. However, there is one glaring downside, and that is cost. The technology is not there just yet and there aren't too many companies that have access to the resources to create these things, nor do we have the nfrastructure to hold many of these things. It's the same argument as how people want alll vehicles to be electric. imagine how much power we would be using if every single vehicle on the road was electric. It's not something that is possible right now, and even so it's costly.
As far as reducing a carbon footprint and enviromental damage, buy locally, work locally, and deal with local companies. It's fairly simple.

The benefits of using alternative sources of energy out way the downsides of using alternative sources of energy. One of the biggest benefits I believe would be the reduction of carbon emissions and pollution which equals cleaner air and environment. Nuclear power in particular can greatly reduces emissions. On the other hand Nuclear power has a negative aspect because of the possible dangers associated with it, like radiation. The biggest disadvantage of using alternative sources of energy is the cost. Most of them such as, Geothermal, Wind and Solar power can be extremely expensive.
I believe most things are already being done to minimize negative environment impact with the guidelines through the EPA. To reduce the impact further, there should probably be a strategic team that regularly inspect those that are practice these alternative sources of power to measure how it is currently affecting the impact on the environment.

I believe that most alternative sources of energy have their benefits in certain situations. For example, solar power is highly effective in the american southwest where there is abundant sunshine most of the year, however, in the upper peninsula of Michigan, it would not be practical. Many "alternative" sources of energy are cleaner and can be cheaper at peak efficiency, however, at lower efficiencies, they are not as cost effective. Either way, there is no one-size-fits-all energy solution. As for environmental impact, I believe that we were given this Earth by God as our temporary home and while it is our responsibility to not abuse it, the Earth has been poisoned by our sin and will be destroyed in the end. Our concern needs to be focused on the souls of those who live on the Earth.
