My name is Natalia Pocica and I am a sophomore. I enjoy snowboarding, track and field, traveling, and basically anything outside. Some of my interests include learning about lost civilizations, World War II, ancient life in Egypt and the rise of Rome. This summer I went camping with my family at Washington Island. One of my biggest goals in life is to get into medical school. Classes that I have enjoyed in the past are my science classes and world studies. Since my family is Polish I am able to speak it fluently along with English. I have also been studying Spanish for the past five years and will continue to do so throughout high school. It was relatively easy when I started to learn the basics because some of the vocab was similar to what I am learning in Spanish. The one downside of this is that I keep mixing up both Italian and Spanish when I am doing my homework. Although, I think it will get easier as time moves on and as I get to learn more of both the languages. As soon as I began to perform this sport for fun I knew that this was something I would stay with for a while. It has always given me a thrill of trying out new things even after I fail over and over. This passion for this sport has stuck with me into my teenage years and now I go to different snowboarding slopes every year with my family. After a long day of snowboarding ee then stay in a cabin or hotel and watch the show "Shark Tank." I am able to quickly pick up the rules or the movements of the sport and excel in it. Even if some sports are not my favorite, such as football or basketball I am still able to play them very well. From a young age I have also always been a fast swimmer and runner. Another thing I am good at is fixing technology issues. If any of my family members have a technological issue the first person they come to is me. I personally enjoy reading and watching things that are based on true stories or are about something that is happening in the world today. Although, there are so many books and movies that I have enjoyed I think that the movie that has influenced me is, "Hidden Figures." This movie is about three African-American women who are hired as the brains of NASA in order to win the space race. This takes place in a time where segregation still ruled people's everyday lives. These three women not only had setbacks because of their skin color but also because of their gender. People usually gift my family movie theater gift cards and it got to the point where we had stacks of them. I am always the one in the family that is excited to go see new movies at any point in time. Last time we went to a movie theater (before coronavirus) we saw two really amazing movies called "Midway" and "Ford vs. Ferrari." They are both based on true stories and they are now one of my favorite movies. Most of the assignments I am able to complete quickly because of how much time is offered in class. I think one of the things I am struggling with sometimes is staying focused because there are so many distractions in my house. My two siblings have zoom classes at the same time that I do which messes with the internet and means there is never a quiet space in the house.
